It started, like most travel plans do, when Yaya and I got itchy feet over dinner. Denmark always seemed to be on my “yes, I will go there soon” list. However, for some reason, I’d never actually visited.

With it being so close to London (just a 1 hour and 20-minute flight), how did it take me until 2015 to finally get there?

As mentioned, I had always wanted to explore Copenhagen!

I was therefore thrilled when we finally got everything organized for our trip.

As a random aside, when looking at tickets, I discovered a one-way flight to Copenhagen from London for as little as £9!

Although it may sound trivial, I am constantly on the lookout for flight deals, and it still surprises me to see prices at this level.

Copenhagen has been known historically as a more expensive destination to fly to from London, so the significant drop in prices is great news for travelers!

With that in mind, I wanted to share how we enjoyed a long weekend in Copenhagen, including where we stayed, what we did, and all the extraordinary experiences that await you in this vibrant city.

1.) Kong Arthur Hotel

We stayed at a fantastic hotel right in the heart of the city called the Hotel Kong Arthur.

Upon arrival, you can’t help but be impressed by how beautiful the room is! My room even featured a cozy snug and study area, almost as if the hotel anticipated my desire to blog during my stay!

Additionally, they provide a cozy hour between 5 PM and 6 PM for complimentary wine. When they informed me about this, my excitement was uncontainable!

After our arrival on Friday evening and settling into such a beautiful hotel room, I felt a little guilty about leaving to explore the city.

Nevertheless, my urge to explore Copenhagen was overpowering, and I was eager to venture out.

2.) Copenhagen Card

During our visit, we had our own Copenhagen Cards, which removed the stress of spending excessively to see the sights.

The Copenhagen Card granted us free entry into 74 museums and attractions across the city, providing us with ample options for hassle-free exploration.

Prices are approximately 400 Danish Krone (£50 / €50 / $60) for adults for 24 hours and can be purchased in the city or online. Children enjoy significantly reduced rates.

3.) Tivoli Gardens

After downloading the Copenhagen Card App, my heart was set on visiting Tivoli Gardens.

The kid within me came alive during my time there, as I turned into a tireless 3-year-old, running around the park in excitement, eager to try every ride and sample as many sweets as I could.

If you haven’t yet heard or visited Tivoli, you are in for an incredible experience!

Tivoli (or Tivoli Gardens) is the second oldest amusement park in the world, opening its doors in 1843. Conveniently located in the city’s center, it’s within walking distance of the main train station.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tivoli!

This nostalgic amusement park features great family rides, as well as thrilling options. I may have screamed numerous times during my visit.

My favorite ride was Rutschebanen, a 101-year-old wooden rollercoaster designed around a giant snow-capped mountain!

I absolutely loved it!

A fascinating fact about Tivoli is that it inspired Walt Disney when creating Disney World. You can easily spend an entire day at Tivoli, hopping from one thrilling ride to the next!

4.) Thorvaldsen’s Museum

After spending some time in Tivoli, we took a pleasant walk around the city and eventually arrived at Thorvaldsen’s Museum.

Bertel Thorvaldsen was a renowned Copenhagen artist who spent over 40 years in Rome perfecting his craft.

Strolling through this art museum feels akin to visiting Rome, and the stunning sculptures are nothing short of extraordinary.

Entry to Thorvaldsen’s Museum is included with the Copenhagen Card, so we decided to drop in for a brief visit, which I highly recommend if you find yourself in Copenhagen.
