3. Rich History
The Miccosukee Tribe originally migrated from the Creek Nation before the arrival of Columbus and prior to Florida’s inclusion in the United States. They were officially recognized by the U.S. government in 1962, which allowed them to establish a sovereign government. As a result, Miccosukee Village operates with its own laws and governance, separate from U.S. authority. The Tribe proudly opens its doors to visitors, inviting everyone to respect and appreciate their rich culture.

There are four distinct Miccosukee Tribe of Indian reservation areas. The largest reservation is nestled in Alligator Alley, spanning 75,000 acres. It hosts a mix of developed land and wetlands. The Tamiami Trail Reservation serves as the heart of the Tribe’s operations, featuring amenities like a police department, clinic, daycare center, general store, restaurant, and the Indian Village.
