While the casinos and resort culture are prominent, we were captivated by Batumi’s intriguing blend of traditional and modern cultures, enhancing its atmospheric allure.

A notable aspect is Batumi’s proximity to Turkey, introducing significant cultural influences, notably a thriving Georgian Muslim community and numerous Turkish-style cafés.

Moreover, the Old City of Batumi feels alive, with modern, progressive young residents shaping its vibrant dynamics.

During the Soviet era, the country’s resort hub was Sukhumi, known for attracting countless tourists, including many from the Soviet elite.

Following the Georgian-Abkhazian war and Georgia’s independence, the resort capital transitioned to Batumi, leading to a significant construction boom beginning in 2009.

HOW TO GET TO BATUMI

From Tbilisi

Traveling from Tbilisi, the most convenient option is by train. During summer, it’s advisable to secure tickets a few days in advance due to high demand.

Trains depart from Station Square, with 2nd class tickets costing approximately 25 GEL and 1st class tickets at 60 GEL.

Upon arrival at Makhinjauri, about 4 km from Batumi, taxis are available for 10-15 GEL, or you can catch a bus that runs frequently to downtown.

By Boat

Baltumi can also be accessed via ferry services from Odessa, Ukraine, with companies like Ukrferry and Ferrysped operating routes. Tickets are roughly 100 USD with a journey time of around 24 hours.

By Plane

Batumi’s international airport offers several daily flights to various destinations, including Middle Eastern cities and several locations in Europe.
