Summary
Ideal for a brief layover or a quick city getaway in Switzerland!
Zurich ranks among the most sought-after destinations in Switzerland, which may be the most evident statement to make, yet it remains true. If you have any interest in Swiss culture—whether it be chocolate or history—Zurich will undoubtably pique your interest.
Before proceeding, I must share an acknowledgment. Instead of navigating Zurich’s streets and acquiring knowledge through trial and error about where to eat and what to explore, I benefited from local insights provided by my Swiss friend, a long-time resident of this cosmopolitan city.
With the support of my knowledgeable friend, we were able to focus on indulging in the local culinary scene rather than scouting for the best dining spots, enhancing our overall experience of the city.
WHERE TO GO FOR AFTERNOON TEA, COFFEE AND CAKES
This venue also serves as a great spot for brunch—Confiserie Sprüngli is the recommended choice.

This destination caters to varied tastes, making it an effortless choice for your visit. (It’s also an excellent spot to relax if you arrive well ahead of your check-in—simply leave your bags at the hotel and head over).
WHERE TO STAY
Zurich boasts a commendable selection of quality hotels, but Hotel Storchen stands out as the premier choice during your visit.
For those with limited time, selecting a centrally located hotel is essential to avoid excessive travel time, as Hotel Storchen is situated adjacent to the lake, the historic town, and numerous main attractions. This area of the city is notably expensive, reflecting the Swiss appreciation for scenic lake views.
The hotel rooms provide impressive views over the city, enhancing the overall experience.
Breakfast is another compelling reason to stay here, complemented by indulgently comfortable bedding.
HOW TO GET AROUND
While utilizing taxis is always an option, the tram system here is notably efficient and punctual. Given the affordability of public transit, it is advisable to obtain a pass rather than relying on single fares.
It is advisable to acquire a day pass, as it provides greater value than purchasing single tickets.
WHERE TO GO FOR DINNER
Les Halles is an excellent dining establishment to consider, known for its delicious cuisine and hospitable staff in a relaxed atmosphere.
This establishment embodies a vibrant atmosphere, making it a locale that would undoubtedly succeed in metropolitan areas like London.
WHERE TO GO FOR DRINKS AND A NIGHT OUT
If you enjoyed dinner at Les Halles, you are in District 5, which is renowned for its clubs and bars—an ideal area to experience Zurich’s nightlife.
Although our evening didn’t culminate in a full night out, those curious about nightlife are advised to visit Club Supermarket, known for its lively ambiance.
For me, following dinner meant returning to the hotel for a delightful surprise of champagne.
WHERE TO GO FOR BREAKFAST
Breakfast is effortlessly taken care of, as this hotel includes a remarkable variety and allows you to order dishes such as eggs directly to your table.
While I neglected to take photographs during breakfast, I did capture images afterward while exploring the hotel for additional aesthetic pleasure.
WHERE TO GO FOR THE SIGHTS
Admittedly, with limited time, you cannot possibly see everything Zurich has to offer; however, Zurich’s compact layout makes accessing the main sights quite manageable. If you’re already positioned at Hotel Storchen, you’re ideally situated to explore significant landmarks.
While walking to the café, you will encounter some of Zurich’s oldest streets, adding an authentic touch to your exploration.
After a swift coffee break, you may find yourself rushing back to your hotel to grab your belongings before heading to your next destination.
