Shortly after breakfast at our previous location in the Maldives, the seaplane arrived to transport us to a new destination – Velassaru, with a brief stop at the capital, Male.
After landing at Male, we boarded the island boat awaiting our arrival, and soon the picturesque island of Velassaru appeared on the horizon!
The weather shifted notably within hours, with the sun blazing by the time we arrived on the island!
Upon our early arrival, I chose to indulge in a second breakfast while we awaited our villa’s readiness.
Not long into breakfast, we received notifications that the villa was ready. Hence, upon finishing the pancakes I had ordered, we proceeded to find our accommodation for the following days.
This time, we stayed in a beach villa – a villa directly situated on the beach – where we were welcomed with an array of snacks, fresh fruits, and a chilled bottle of sparkling wine!
Where are my manners? Allow me to give you a tour!
One of my favorite aspects of beach villas in the Maldives is the outdoor bath. There is something wonderfully luxurious (and perhaps slightly extravagant) about bathing surrounded by nature.
After quickly unpacking our belongings in the villa, we ventured outside in search of cocktails and sunshine on the beach, which, might I add, is simply breathtaking. Just see for yourself!
However, my earlier decision to enjoy a second breakfast, followed by cocktails under the sun, led to an unintended nap that lasted until sunset (in the villa’s lounge area, of course, not under direct sunlight). I can’t fathom how I managed that, particularly given my fondness for food!
The sunsets here are breathtaking, a true spectacle. Capturing the stunning display of blues, oranges, and purples becomes nearly irresistible.
Even the herons seem to participate in the marvellous display.
For dinner, we ventured to Sand, undoubtedly one of the finest restaurants on the island. At Sand, you have the option to sink your toes into the tranquil beach sand while being attended to by dedicated staff.
I commenced my meal with prawn tempura, while Lloyd opted for the lobster bisque.
For the main course, I chose to relish an entire lobster, noted as the most substantial lobster I had ever encountered. While accustomed to regular-sized lobsters, I believed I could easily consume one whole. This lobster was genuinely delectable, though it still posed a challenge to finish. Nonetheless, I managed to completely savor every bite.
Lloyd chose the Maldivian chicken and prawn curry, and judging by his expressions of delight, it appeared to be a treat!
For dessert, I opted for the sago pudding, which resembles tapioca closely, making it an easy choice for me (not many know how much I appreciate tapioca or how delightful it is when paired with coconut milk and cream or condensed milk).
Lloyd indulged in chocolate pudding (no surprises there), and based on his delighted exclamations, it seemed to have been quite good!
Ultimately, by the time we concluded our meal, we had spent nearly four hours at the restaurant, which took me completely by surprise as I typically finish in about a quarter of that time. Island time is unrivaled and the epitome of relaxation!
