Treasure Hunting In Helsinki, Finland! #Nordics48h (38)

Following our ascent to Pulpit Rock, we arrived at the Scandic City Hotel Stavanger around 1:30 am, feeling invigorated although fatigued. Consequently, I was quickly enveloped in slumber.

The subsequent morning’s breakfast at the hotel was an exceptional and lavish experience, featuring an extensive array of breakfast options that surpassed typical expectations. My preference generally leans towards either pancakes or waffles. I voraciously indulged in these along with fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, and a selection of cheese whose name eludes me. Admittedly, my breakfast plates often resemble a visual cacophony; however, I manage to make it work.

Amidst this culinary chaos, I was momentarily disoriented by an envelope revealing our next destination, and I inadvertently overlooked taking any photographs of the breakfast spread. This, however, may have been fortuitous, as our taxi promptly arrived to transport us to the airport for our next venture – HELSINKI!

A brief confession: upon realizing our trip was headed to Helsinki, I instantly commenced an online search for Scandic hotels available in the city. During my inquiry, I discovered that Hotel Scandic Paasi consistently ranked as one of the top hotels in Helsinki. Thus, I eagerly anticipated that this would be our chosen accommodation.

To my delight, it was indeed our hotel! #YASSSS!!! 🙂

I promptly deposited my belongings in the room and proceeded to capture an excessive number of photographs!

To our surprise, our hotel room featured a sauna! A hint from earlier – the “Loyly” one. Every Nordic individual will attest that a sauna is a quintessential element of their culture; however, it is commonly shared in hotel facilities. Thus, having our private sauna was nothing short of extraordinary!

When conversing with locals in Finland, the meer mention of our private sauna elicited astonished reactions, as if to exclaim, “No way!” It is of significant value here, and we greatly appreciated it!

Subsequently, we engaged in a significant amount of “Ooohing” and “Aaahing” over the hotel’s amenities and embarked on our next endeavor – specifically, we had only one hour and €30 to procure the most authentic Finnish items we could discover in the Helsinki design district.

It is noteworthy that our hotel comprises three distinct and historic buildings. Our accommodation was situated within the older historical structure where renovations are strictly regulated, and even painting is undertaken only after ensuring the original walls are preserved.

As we began our adventure in search of the most authentic Finnish merchandise within the design district, I was reminded of how the hotel’s manager, Minna, who exhibited remarkable insight into my penchant for sweets, generously bestowed upon us a delightful array of Finnish confections. This significantly increased the weight of my luggage! Her thoughtfulness is genuinely appreciated.
