Toronto TTC Fare Information and Pricing

The TTC is Toronto’s public transit system, effectively operating subways, streetcars, LRTs, and buses throughout the city. There are various ways to pay for a ride on the TTC, with different price ranges based on fare categories and usage frequency.

Cash/Single Fare Purchase

When using cash to board a bus or streetcar, it’s essential to have exact change, as TTC drivers do not carry change. However, if you enter through a subway station, you can pay a single fare directly to the collector in the ticket booth, who can provide change if needed. Note that automated entrances and turnstiles cannot be used for cash payments.

  • Adult/Post-Secondary Student: $3.25
  • Senior/Student: $2.10
  • Child: Free for those 12 and under

Tickets & Tokens

Purchasing a set of tickets or tokens can be more economical than paying with cash fares. At subway stations, tokens are accepted in turnstiles and automated entrances, helping you bypass long lines. It’s important to note that adult tickets are no longer issued; only tokens are available. Students, seniors, and children must purchase tickets to benefit from their discounts.

  • Adult: $9 for a minimum of three tokens
  • Senior/Student: $10.25 for a minimum of five tokens

Day Pass

The TTC Day Pass allows unlimited rides for a single day. While discounted passes for seniors or students are not offered, on weekends and holidays, the pass can be shared by multiple individuals traveling together.

  • $12.50

Weekly Pass

A TTC Weekly Pass provides unlimited travel from Monday to the following Sunday. Passes for the upcoming week become available every Thursday at TTC collector booths. The weekly pass is transferable, meaning one rider can share it as long as they exit the system before passing it along; however, seniors and students can only share with fellow seniors and students who must show ID.

  • Adult: $43.75
  • Senior/Student: $34.75

Monthly Metropass

The monthly Metropass offers unlimited TTC travel for an entire month. It is now available only on PRESTO. Notably, the Metropass was discontinued as of December 31, 2018.

As a replacement for the discontinued Metropass Discount Plan (MDP), you may consider the 12 Month Pass on PRESTO, which provides the same unlimited travel with a similar commitment.

  • Adult: $146.25 for a regular Metropass
  • Senior/Student: $116.75 for a regular Metropass
  • Post-Secondary Student Metropass: $116.75

PRESTO

  • The PRESTO payment method is utilized at all subway stations and on all buses and streetcars. This electronic payment system requires the purchase of a card for $6, which must then be loaded with a minimum of $10. Users tap their card upon boarding and exiting the bus or entering and exiting the subway station. Cards can be acquired at various locations, including Shoppers Drug Mart, and through the TTC’s Customer Service Centre.
  • Adult: $3
  • Senior/Student: $2.05

These payment options represent the most frequently used methods for TTC fares. Additionally, there are GTA Weekly Passes and extra fares or stickers for Downtown Express Routes. For more information, visit the official TTC website.
