Summary
This article provides insights into some of the outstanding dining establishments in Vienna, curated based on feedback from locals and our community.
Initially, I was not planning to compose this article; however, during our recent visit to Vienna, I lacked guidance on where to find exceptional culinary experiences.
As we had been on an exhaustive travel schedule prior to this trip, time was limited for research. Consequently, I am grateful for the excellent restaurant suggestions you provided, which greatly enhanced our experience of dining in Vienna.
Given our limited planning, I sought recommendations for authentic dining locations, and I am pleased to share that the GoTravelDaily community responded enthusiastically.
Many exceptional suggestions poured in for this vibrant city, far exceeding what we could experience during our brief visit. This abundance of options assures me that a return journey is essential to explore and enjoy more of what Vienna has to offer!
I intend to present the recommendations verbatim, without modification or categorization, so you can enjoy them as they were shared. I opted not to link directly to the recommenders due to variations in privacy settings; instead, references to the original discussions will be noted.

Comprehensive List of the Best Restaurants in Vienna
- The Austrian Sacher cake is often deemed overrated, yet it is worth a taste.
- You must try ‘Miznon’; it’s not authentically Viennese but is a unique culinary experience.
- Be sure to indulge in the Schnitzel at Figlmüller—it’s a quintessential offering!
- The Naschmarkt is essential; it’s where you can sample a diverse array of dishes.
- Consider Kra kra for an excellent Schnitzel lunch menu.
- Visit Naschmarkt as it has much to offer!
- Figlmüller is quite touristy; I suggest Gangl at the campus. Additionally, they offer their own variations of Schnitzel, including delightful cheese-stuffed options. When the weather permits, outdoor seating at ‘Altes AKH’ is ideal.
- For a refreshing drink, the Palmenhaus in Burggarten provides a tropical atmosphere. Breakfast at the Kunsthistorisches Museum (reservation via email recommended) is a treat. Should you want to try the Austrian torte, Café Sacher is a classic choice. We also stumbled upon an excellent brewery called 1516 Brewing Company, which boasted outstanding service and delightful music.
- Allocate time for the Austrian National Library—it’s truly stunning! If you’ve already enjoyed schnitzels, I recommend trying a Wiener from a local wurstlstand.
- Do not overlook the Apfelstrudel; tradition calls for indulging in this dessert at a classic Kaffeehaus like Café Central or Café Prückel!
- A visit to Prater is essential. The world’s oldest theme park, with carriages over a century old, offers the best views in the city.
- The best Wurststand in Vienna is located in front of the Albertina, named Bitzinger. I would recommend against Figlmüller for Schnitzels due to its touristic nature and high prices compared to the quality. Favor the Schweizerhaus in Prater or Plachutta; both are classics.
- Central Café is an excellent spot to relax. Their cakes and strudels are delightful. ☺️
- Trzesniewski, just off the Graben offers incredible open-faced sandwiches!
- We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at “das Spittelberg”—a lovely venue with exciting cuisine, leaning towards fine dining. Enjoy! 👋🏼 from Sweden!
- EF16 is perfect for an upscale dinner! Additionally, try the cremeschnitte at one of the cafes (for a change from apfelstrudel), just bring insulin to enjoy!
- If you’re convinced to try pork knuckle, the hidden Melker Stiftskeller is a must-visit! They served a beautiful strudel there too.
- Miznon remains a top recommendation!! I still dream about it months later.
- Visit Glacis Beisl— a charming restaurant in the museum area with a fantastic outdoor patio. Their mushroom goulash and pork dumplings rank among my best meals ever. Also, Mayer am Pfarrplatz, though further from the city, is phenomenal! 💕
- Café Sacher is renowned for its Sacher torte and indulgent boozy coffee!
- At Schweizerhaus in Prater, famed for their “Stelze.” Also, Apfelstrudel is available almost everywhere!
- Steirereck serves modern and contemporary Austrian cuisine, ensuring a cutting-edge experience. It’s highly recommended. 😉
- If you manage to find it, Ribs of Vienna is worth your time!
- Eissalon Tichy is essential, along with every kebab/falafel on Reumannplatz for some street food experience.
- Heuer am Karlsplatz offers modern and trendy Austrian cuisine along with cocktails. Café Diglas Schottenstift is a pleasant outdoor cafe, while Restaurant 1070 provides a cozy, home-cooked meal.
- Be sure to check Café Prückel, a lovely brasserie. Joma is recommended for good Schnitzel at Plachutta Gasthaus Zur Oper. Avoid Figlmüller, as that’s where only tourists go. Breakfast at the café at Motto am Fluss is great too. Try sushi at DOTS, greetings from a Viennese follower.
- Salam Brau offers a good selection as well.
- The golden Wurstel stand—definitely worth a visit.
- Be sure to go to Naschmarkt; it’s a delightful market!
- A cozy Italian option with a warm host can be found at Pronto di Salvo on Spiegelgasse 5; ask the waiter for the pasta of the day.
- Café Central is unmissable!
- I concur with Café Central; it’s a must-visit.
- I can’t recall the exact location but do inquire for Blunzengröstl.
- Explore Schönbrunn 💕.
- Consider a visit to Café Engländer.
- For brunch, I highly recommend Das Loft (atop Sofitel Vienna). It’s a place you must visit!
- Hotel Sacher boasts the original (and best) Sacher torte—don’t even consider lunch beforehand!
- Demel is perfect for dessert lovers!
- For cake lovers: Café Central, Oberlaa, Cafe Landtmann are all recommended (including nearby cafes at Schönbrunn castle).
- We enjoyed an outstanding meal at 1500, part of the 25hours Hotel near the museum quarter.
