Summary
When we decided to go to Tennessee, I knew pretty much straight away that we would have to make a road trip of it.
Consequently, rather than stick to one city the entire time, we decided that a three-city trip would be just the thing (which is fairly doable seeing as we were here for about 9 days in total).
Initially, we headed off to Memphis and stayed at the Madison Hotel. This hotel usually boasts an amazing rooftop bar; however, we arrived right in the middle of renovations, and unfortunately, there were no rooftop sunsets to enjoy during our stay.
The drive to Memphis from Nashville takes approximately three hours, allowing us to arrive in time for lunch. We had no significant plans for the evening other than soaking up the vibrant atmosphere in Memphis. Therefore, we began our search for food.
We discovered Maciel’s Taco Shop, which turned out to be the perfect choice for an unintentional Mexican feast.
This unintentional feast started when I thought, “Oh, I’ll just get a fajita… but I’m pretty hungry, so I’ll add a side of cheesy nachos.” It turns out you get a generous portion of nachos with your food already, leading to an abundance of deliciousness with an enormous portion of fajitas and an equally massive burrito for Lloyd.
The meal was absolutely delicious but significantly more food than we had originally anticipated! 😊 (Though I would gladly indulge in similar cuisine right about now).
By the time we finished our lunch, we felt like we could have needed a wheelbarrow to roll us out of Maciel’s!
One confirmed plan was to visit the iconic Peabody Hotel, where there was a rooftop party with live music lined up.
This rooftop party, held weekly, features live music, food, dancing, and stunning sunset views over Memphis. Moreover, the entry fee is quite reasonable, with a standard ticket costing around $15 and $20 for VIP access—where VIP perks include additional food and a cordoned-off area.
The Peabody Hotel is also famous for its resident ducks, which embark on a daily procession from their penthouse down the elevators to the fountains, where they relax in luxury until it’s time for bed. This charming spectacle attracts quite a crowd!
We arrived just as the party was getting started (i.e., fairly early) and got ourselves some drinks to kick things off.
After spending several days packed with activities, it was a refreshing treat to relax in the sun. Memphis, by the way, felt much hotter than Nashville, and as the sun began to set, the ambience was simply perfect with ice-cold cocktails in hand.
As the music began to play, everyone started dancing, creating an absolutely thrilling atmosphere!
