Having just returned from the Faroe Islands, it is difficult to resist the urge to plan another trip to this captivating destination.
To portray the islands succinctly, I would liken them to Iceland but with significantly fewer tourists. During our explorations, it truly felt as though we were among the privileged few to witness such unspoiled beauty, resulting in an idyllic, dreamlike atmosphere.

1.) Encounter Puffins on Mykines
The charming puffins await you! Mykines, a small island on the western coast of Vagar, can be accessed easily either by helicopter or ferry. A helicopter ride takes around six minutes, with reasonable pricing at approximately $40, thus making it an attractive option.
Alternatively, if heights are not your preference, ferry access is readily available. Observing these delightful puffins, which are rather unperturbed by human presence, is an unforgettable experience—certainly among the top activities to enjoy in the Faroe Islands.
To optimize your experience, summer is the ideal time to visit, as the puffin population is not present during winter months.
2.) Discover Mulafossur Waterfall
Located around a 20-minute drive from the main airport, Mulafossur Waterfall is easily accessible by heading west and enjoying the stunning coastline and quaint village along the way. For an exceptional outing, consider visiting the coast around early evening for breathtaking views overlooking Tindhólmur Island.
3.) Hike to Lake Sørvágsvatn
Sørvágsvatn is one of the world’s most dramatic lakes, seemingly falling from cliffs straight into the ocean below. The hike to the cliff edge takes approximately an hour, so it is advisable to wear comfortable footwear as the trails can be muddy.
4.) Explore Waves around Vestmanna
The coast surrounding Vestmanna presents a stunning landscape for exploration. Arriving at the town allows you to embark on one of the boat tours to view the towering cliffs—a beautiful way to experience the breathtaking scenery of this untouched wilderness.
5.) Visit the Charming Saksun Church
Situated on the western side of the Faroe Islands, Saksun Church is a quaint house of worship located on the island of Streymoy. As you wander around the area, you will notice that it feels wonderfully isolated and serene.

6.) See the Tallest Waterfall, Fossa
Fossa Waterfall, found near Nesvík on Streymoy Island, is quite easy to locate, as it is situated just off one of the main roads. However, do not be surprised if traffic is minimal—these „main roads“ can be empty, with only a car passing every fifteen minutes.
7.) Travel to Gjógv
After visiting Fossa Waterfall, make your way to Gjógv, a quaint village perched on the dramatic coastline. Stroll through the charming wooden houses to experience an authentic village atmosphere that is both welcoming and lovely to explore.
8.) Walk along the Shores of Sund
Located just north of the capital city, Tórshavn, the coastal inlets around Sund offer an ideal setting to appreciate the breathtaking landscapes of this whimsical destination.
For convenience, the peaceful shores can be accessed through the underground sea tunnels that connect the islands, creating a surreal experience.

Overlooking the small island of Koltur, Syðradalur is a picturesque area easily reachable from the capital, taking approximately 25 minutes by car. The drive offers incredible views, especially as you approach during sunset.

During our visit, we opted to ride Icelandic horses, which are reputed to be friendly and sociable, contrasting with the local horses that have a tendency to be stubborn.

Tinganes is one of the oldest sections of Torshavn, the capital city of the Faroe Islands. It is renowned for being one of the oldest governmental assembly sites in the world.
With a wealth of history and charming grass-roofed buildings, this is a beautiful location to discover while in this petite capital.

If you seek exhilarating experiences, consider boarding the RIB 62 boats, which whisk you away into the frigid North Atlantic Ocean.
