Top 7 Travel Photography Fails to Avoid

Recently, a friend shared an amusing Facebook photo taken at the beach. Although she intended to be prominently featured, only about a third of her body was captured—just an arm, a leg, some of a backpack, and a vast stretch of sand! After inquiring about the mishap, she explained that her partner had snapped the picture, leading to the hilarious result. In a playful act of defiance (or perhaps solidarity), she chose to make it her profile photo, which is a delightful choice that made me laugh—especially knowing the context. Inspired by this, I decided to explore the internet for some of the worst travel photography—images that are so badly taken, they become amusingly good!

N.B.: This light-hearted piece is intended for entertainment and should not be interpreted seriously! Both Lloyd and I admit to having a collection of questionable photos—a common struggle among travelers. The frustrating part is when those photos appear appealing on the camera screen, only to later reveal themselves as nothing more than blurry memories when viewed on a computer.

Nevertheless, here are seven examples of travel photography that missed the mark:

1.) The ‘Almost’ Moment

2.) The Secret Narcissist

Who needs to capture the pyramids when you can focus on yourself instead?

3.) The Blur Effect

A combination of art and mishap—part I-forgot-it-on-manual-focus error and mostly just less-than-stellar.

6.) The ‘Gotta-Have-That-Photo’ One

A fantastic idea that unfortunately resulted in a lackluster execution.

7.) The Party One

Sometimes it’s best to just put the camera down; you might be a bit too intoxicated to capture meaningful moments.
