From cities in South America like Rio de Janeiro to the beauty of Argentinian Patagonia, South America has a destination to suit every taste. Nevertheless, with so many options, it can be challenging to determine the best place to begin your adventure, especially since some of the finest places in South America to explore are located at opposite ends of the continent.

Throughout the years, we’ve traveled to South America numerous times. It’s a remarkable continent that continually draws us back. However, my advice for first-time visitors is to avoid becoming overwhelmed by the plethora of choices—which can be quite difficult. Plan your trip in manageable and achievable segments, concentrating on the regions you enjoy the most.

Buenos Aires is a vibrant city and undoubtedly one of the best locations in South America to explore if you’re traveling further through Argentina. It boasts the energetic atmosphere typical of a global city, while also housing some really cool and fun spots to visit.

When you’re there, make sure to stop by San Telmo Market for a culinary experience. The market is filled with diverse stalls and vendors, and one that stands out is Beba Cocina for their incredible empanadas.

Another highlight is the historic Colon Theatre, one of South America’s most magnificent opera houses, where you can watch a performance or take a guided tour.

2.) Cusco, Peru

Cusco is renowned as a charming destination and often serves as a gateway for those embarking on the Inca Trail or a journey to Machu Picchu. Nonetheless, it truly deserves its own spotlight as a destination worth exploring.

While visiting Cusco, it is essential to take time to acclimatize to the high altitude and immerse yourself in the numerous Inca sites nearby.

3.) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular cities in Brazil and globally recognized for its vibrant culture and stunning beaches. This city is bustling with activities, making it a hot spot for travelers.

While there, don’t miss the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue for breathtaking views, particularly at sunset. However, be prepared for crowds and consider purchasing your tickets in advance.

Indeed, Montevideo presents a more affordable option for travelers compared to bustling Rio. Be sure to explore the marvelous Solis Theatre and the 港区 Salvo Palace during your itinerary.

Argentinian Patagonia is a magnificent region that stretches across the country’s southern expanse, truly an incredible place to visit for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.

Replete with stunning geological features and magnificent glacial reserves, Patagonia is teeming with hiking opportunities, including the breathtaking Perito Moreno Glacier.
