Nestled on the eastern shores of Mobile Bay, the charming city of Daphne, Alabama, boasts a rich history that dates back to approximately 9000 BC, having been inhabited by Native Americans, as well as English, French, Spanish, and American settlers.
Locally referred to as ‘Jubilee City’, Daphne experiences an intriguing natural occurrence known as Jubilees, where abundant shellfish appear along the shores of Mobile Bay, offering residents easy access to crab, flounder, and shrimp.
Visitors have the opportunity to drive along the picturesque coastline to Gulf State Park and Pensacola, traverse across the bay to the vibrant city of Mobile, or visit one of the world’s top-rated beaches, Orange Beach.

1. Daphne Bayfront Park
Situated along Mobile Bay, Daphne Bayfront Park presents an array of attractions. With a lengthy wooden boardwalk, ample fishing opportunities, and stunning sunsets, it is a space where one could easily spend an entire day.
Stroll along the nature trails to observe birdlife, alligators, and even a historic cemetery.
Picnic tables are available for relaxation and photography, alongside a pavilion that can be reserved for any gatherings during your visit to Alabama.
2. Gator Alley Boardwalk
Positioned on the Eastern Shore Trail, approximately 3.5 miles north of Daphne, Alabama, Gator Alley Boardwalk allows for an immersive experience with these magnificent creatures, many of which can be found near residential areas and overpasses within the town.
Some alligators can reach lengths of 10 to 12 feet and can be viewed from the boardwalk bridge.
It is advisable to bring a camera or binoculars but it is prudent to leave pets at home.
3. Fairhope Municipal Pier & Park
Built on the location of the city’s original pier from 1894, the vicinity of Fairhope Municipal Pier is akin to the town’s central square, adorned with fountains, flags, and boardwalks. Although nearly destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the pier was rebuilt the following year.
This facility offers an ideal setting for walking and fishing, complete with a marina, dining options, and benches that allow for breathtaking sunset views.
The area is also frequented by bird watchers; during my visit, I witnessed pelicans, loafing gulls, and a variety of wading birds.
