The city is adorned with whimsical, fairy-tale-like homes and boasts a stunning beach! Carmel Beach, easily accessible from Scenic Road, is delightful on sunny Californian afternoons. For those who prefer not to indulge in beach activities, I recommend taking time to visit the Carmel Mission Basilica Museum, dating back to the 1700s and featuring breathtaking architecture.

If you seek a leisurely stroll, consider following the nearby Moss Cove trail that leads to the Granite Point trail, which offers stunning views and is relatively easy to navigate.

Afterwards, enjoy a cozy meal at Dametra Cafe, renowned for its delicious freshly made pasta.

2.) Garrapata State Park

Located approximately 10-12 miles south of Carmel By The Sea, Garrapata State Park is an essential stop on your Big Sur Road Trip in California. The area is unbelievably scenic.

Although the beach itself is still a two-mile drive from the highway along with a designated parking lot, the journey will prove worthwhile!

Upon arrival, you will encounter stunning rock formations, such as Keyhole Arch, and a beautiful beach where you can unwind and appreciate the peaceful coastline. Don’t forget to bring snacks, beverages, and sun protection, as amenities are quite limited here.

Additionally, if time allows, stop by the Henry Miller Memorial Library to discover remarkable literature and the artistic history of the area; it is a wonderfully creative establishment worth a visit as you pass by.

After a day filled with beach activities and visiting the library, head over to Nepenthe for wholesome American dishes paired with delightful Californian wines for those not behind the wheel. Their diver scallops are absolutely delicious.

12.) Garrapata State Park & Beach
