Notably, reservations are not accepted at Tayyabs, so be prepared to arrive slightly earlier or anticipate a short wait. Furthermore, the meals are reasonably priced. You can enjoy some of the finest curries and refreshing mango lassi for approximately £10 – £20.

I hold a particular affection for Hopper’s, especially following my travels to Sri Lanka. I assure you, they were my favorite delicacy, and I consistently made an effort to enjoy them at breakfast.
What distinguishes Hopper’s is its commitment to delivering authentic Sri Lankan flavors right in central London. It ranks among the most vibrant and inviting curry houses in London.

4.) Apollo Banana Leaf
Several neighborhoods are recognized for their exceptional curry establishments in London, including Brick Lane, among others, yet Tooting also boasts remarkable venues, particularly for South Asian cuisine.
Now, Apollo Banana Leaf (at 190 Tooting Street) appears rather unassuming from the exterior, yet it indeed houses some of the finest curries in the region.
Specializing in traditional dishes from South India and Sri Lanka, each dish is prepared with care and abundant spices! The samosas serve as an extraordinary appetizer or light meal, and if you seek something more filling, savor the crab curry, exquisitely prepared and presented within the shell. It truly is one of the premier curry establishments in London for crab curry.
Open hours are Monday – Thursday from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm and dinner from 6:00 pm – 10:30 pm, with Friday – Sunday offerings from 12:00 pm – 10:30 pm.
5.) Dishoom Shoreditch
Situated at 7 Boundary Street, Dishoom is a fashionable curry establishment in London that has gained popularity after work hours, particularly when Shoreditch comes alive during weekends.
Not only does Dishoom offer delectable food, but the ambiance of the restaurant is equally appealing! Should you visit for breakfast, be sure to try the Akuri, which consists of spicy curried scrambled eggs paired with freshly baked bread and grilled tomato – it is an energizing feast.
If you’re recovering from a night out in Shoreditch, don’t miss out on their specialty Bloody Mary, which is delightfully smoky and comes with a significant kick. This drink alone contributes to Dishoom being recognized as one of the best curry houses in London for a post-weekend repast.
Dishoom operates as follows: Monday – Wednesday from 8:00 am- 11:00 pm, Thursday and Friday from 8:00 am – midnight, and Saturday from 9:00 am – midnight and Sunday 9:00 am -11:00 pm. Given its popularity, booking in advance is advisable.
6.) Surma Curry House
Situated on Lordship Lane in the emerging East Dulwich neighborhood of London, Surma stands out as one of the premier curry houses should you desire a stuffed naan or a tikka masala.
From an exterior perspective, Surma may be easily overlooked; it is one of those establishments that truly excels in delivering exceptional food over flashy decor.
Surma Curry House operates daily from 5:30 pm – 11:30 pm.
7.) The Rajdoot
The Rajdoot is a modest curry house in London located on Paddington Street. The defining feature of Rajdoot is its commitment to offering some of the finest Indian cuisine in the vicinity.
I personally enjoy a good spicy curry, yet I made the error of requesting the spiciest curry they could prepare, which was rather ambitious on my part! Be cautious, as spiciness can be subjective, as I quickly discovered!
The Rajdoot is open daily from 12:00 pm – 12:00 am and also provides takeout options if you prefer to dine in the comfort of your hotel or home.
8.) Gymkhana
Located at 42 Albemarle Street, this establishment aims to imitate the Gymkhana Clubs of India.
Historically, these were venues for drinking and socializing amongst the elite in India. Although the atmosphere has evolved in London to accommodate diverse attendees, its sophisticated charm has solidified its status as one of London’s premier curry houses.
Even if you lack prior knowledge about curries, do not worry! Gymkhana provides set menus that span two to three courses, and the staff excels at recommending dishes tailored to your preferences. This approach allows you to explore a variety of flavors until you discover your favorite.
Lunch is served Monday – Saturday from 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm, and dinner from 5:30 pm – 10:15 pm. Note that Gymkhana remains closed on Sundays.
9.) Café Spice Namaste
Café Spice Namaste excels in merging an exquisite blend of Indian and European cuisines within a single venue! Located at 16 Prescot Street, this venue is ideal for those seeking a proper sit-down dining experience that genuinely embraces bold flavors.
One of my personal favorites from their menu is the seafood curry (it’s outstanding!). Should that not appeal, you can also opt to sample the Table D’Hote, which features a delicious three-course menu that changes weekly.
Lunch hours are Monday-Friday from noon until 3:00 pm, and dinner from 6:15 to 10:30 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, they welcome patrons from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Café Spice Namaste is closed on Sundays.
10.) Booma
Situated at 224 Brixton Road, Booma provides substantial Indian cuisine complemented by an impressive craft beer selection, which proves perfect for a warm summer evening!
Fundamentally, Booma has received accolades for its craft beer, reflecting its genuine passion for the beverage.
If you are unfamiliar with beer or typically do not consume beer, there is no need for concern, as Booma provides beer pairing suggestions for each menu item that you will surely appreciate. Personally, I recommend the Booma Chicken (or Vegetarian) Curry paired with the refreshing and crisp Booma Lager.
Booma’s operational hours are Monday – Thursday from 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Friday from 5:00 pm – 11:30 pm, Saturday from 4:00 pm – 11:30 pm, and Sunday from 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm.
11.) The Angel Curry Centre
The Angel Curry Centre is a charming, family-operated establishment famed for its vibrant curries in London.
Set at 5 Chapel Market, the butter chicken here is exceptional. Additionally, for vegetarians, be sure to sample their spicy vegetable madras (I emphasize ‘spicy’ as it carries a hefty kick that might surprise you!).
The Angel Curry Centre is open on Sunday – Thursday from 5:30 pm – 11:30 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 pm to midnight.
12.) Bengal Curry House
Located at 24 St. James Street, the Bengal Curry House in London is a well-frequented establishment by both locals and visitors alike. While it may lack the trappings of modernity with expansive windows and chic lighting, it compensates through its exceptional curries.
Upon your arrival, be sure to taste the king prawn curry, which is an absolute delight! This dish alone secures the Bengal Curry House’s reputation as one of the prime establishments in London for curry. Prices for main dishes are quite reasonable, especially considering London’s dining landscape.
Typically, the Bengal Curry House operates; Monday – Thursday from 5:00 pm – 10:30 pm and from Friday – Sunday from 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm. When visiting on weekends, I recommend exercising patience, as the venue tends to get busy.
