Examine some of the best dining establishments in Toronto that deserve your attention.
1.) A hip place: Figures
Figures is a concealed gem located in the Yorkville neighborhood, hidden behind a nondescript door. This comic book-themed restaurant presents an innovative culinary experience with a cool atmosphere. It’s certainly a place you should not overlook.
Upon entering, consider trying their TV Dinner, which features buttermilk fried chicken served with taleggio whipped Yukon potatoes, all presented on a vibrant TV dinner tray. For dessert, do not miss out on their freshly made doughnuts, complemented by delightful cocktails.
2.) A French place: Alo
Situated atop a heritage building in downtown, Alo is frequently recognized as a premier destination for French cuisine in Toronto. It offers two dining options: reservations for the main dining room—which tends to fill up quickly—or a more casual experience at Alo’s Cocktail Bar for walk-ins, featuring classic cocktails and an enticing à la carte menu including special dishes like Ora King Salmon and Sea Urchin with Black Truffle.
3.) A Neighbourhood place: Richmond Station
Richmond Station is a neighborhood establishment focused on high-quality cuisine within a welcoming community atmosphere. Their charcuterie boards are particularly popular, adding delightful cheese selections, making every visit satisfying.
4.) A Dumpling place: Dumpling House
During a visit to Chinatown, I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon Dumpling House, an exceptional find for those seeking a quality meal in the area. This unpretentious restaurant specializes in both fried and steamed dumplings, each offering remarkable flavor and affordability.
Top tip: Be sure to bring cash, as card payments are not accepted at Dumpling House.
5.) A Mexican place: Seven Lives
Located on Kensington Avenue, Seven Lives operates as both a dine-in and takeaway option, consistently attracting a crowd (anticipate a queue). The laid-back atmosphere offers an unpretentious setting, making it ideal for enjoying delicious Mexican flavors.
One of their standout offerings includes their fish tacos, widely regarded as some of the best in Toronto, priced at approximately $6 each. While slightly pricier than some alternatives, the quality justifies the cost.
6.) A seafood place: Joso’s
Joso’s has been a fixture for over 40 years and is celebrated for its exceptional seafood dishes. Their octopus salad and the grilled fish, specifically presented in a Dalmatia Style, are highly recommended.
7.) A Shellfish place: Rodney’s Oyster House
Rodney’s Oyster House has been a beloved seafood destination for over 20 years, renowned for its exceptional shellfish selection as well as featuring a delightful New England Caesar.
Top tip: Such visit is best planned for any day other than Sunday, as the establishment is closed on that day.
8.) A Japanese place: Miku
Located by the harborfront, Miku is celebrated for its fresh Japanese cuisine. Although the prices are somewhat elevated compared to other eateries, the quality of the dishes makes it a worthwhile experience.
9.) A Sweet place: Bang Bang Ice Cream
Bangs Bang Ice Cream, located on Ossington Ave, is the premier spot for indulging in ice cream sandwiches. With more of a café-like atmosphere, it’s a friendly place to grab a sweet treat on the go. It’s definitely worth a visit!
Top tip: They also offer gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options, catering to various dietary needs.
