1.) Head to the top of Swayambhu
Dating back centuries, Swayambhu is an ancient temple often renowned as the “Monkey Temple.” Upon your arrival, you will encounter more than three hundred rocky steps leading to the temple. The panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley from the summit is simply awe-inspiring.
2.) Explore Bhaktapur
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bhaktapur is an exceptional destination to explore, albeit technically outside of Kathmandu. The journey may be swift, but one should be prepared for the notorious traffic congestion of the city.
3.) Visit the Pashupatinath Temple
The Pashupatinath Temple, a notable Hindu temple, is a prominent site within the city. This sacred location is famous among Hindus globally, with millions visiting during Maha Shivaratri.
4.) Explore the Boudhanath Stupa
The Boudhanath Stupa ranks among the largest stupas in Nepal, making it a significant attraction for those interested in religious history.
5.) See Taleju Temple
Situated at the northern end of Durbar Square, Taleju Temple stands as a magnificent structure. Although access to the interior is restricted, dedicating time to appreciate the stunning architecture from the exterior is highly recommended.
6.) Shop at the Ason and Mangal Bazaars
The bustling area of Ason and Mangal Bazaars captivates visitors and locals alike, offering diverse street food, spices, gifts, and everyday essentials.
7.) Visit the Thamel District
To fully appreciate the Thamel District, walking is the preferred method. Visitors should remain cautious of the bustling traffic. This district is renowned for its numerous dining establishments, shops, and places like the Garden of Dreams, a serene refuge away from the busy streets.
8.) Hike Shivapuri National Park
Shivapuri National Park offers a refreshing escape from urban life, featuring picturesque hiking trails that lead to Shivapuri Hill Station, reaching an elevation of almost 9,000 feet.

If you are not planning on hiking, you can still embark on a 1-hour scenic flight over Everest, offering breathtaking views of the world’s highest peaks.

Momos, a beloved Nepalese dumpling, are both budget-friendly and flavorful. Though originally borrowed from Tibetan cuisine, it has been the Newar community that popularized this dish throughout Nepal.
