Without further ado regarding my admiration for Portugal and its culinary offerings, I wish to present some quaint locations in Portugal that are slightly off the conventional tourist path.
While numerous famous places in Portugal abound, my intention is to highlight some personal favorites that may not be widely known.
Indeed, there are countless experiences to discover within these charming and picturesque locales, which are also conveniently accessible during a broader road trip around Portugal.

Monsanto stands out as one of the most picturesque destinations in Portugal, located not far from the Spanish border.
This small fortified village was designated as the most Portuguese village in Portugal in 1938. Its charm lies in the closely packed houses and streets carved into the rugged cliffs and granite boulders surrounding the town.
Be sure to visit the castle that overlooks Monsanto along with the stunning mountains of Serra de Estrela.
Moreover, make a stop for wine and snacks at Taverna Lusitana, which offers exceptional views of the region.
2.) Monsaraz
Monsaraz stands out as one of the most delightful and picturesque locations in Portugal. To this day, this village retains its historical and medieval ambiance, making it a splendid area to explore.

This village served as the seat of the municipality and played a significant role as a stronghold for the Order of Malta.
Additionally, Alvaro is rich in religious heritage, evident in numerous chapels and a church dedicated to Saint James that exist within the town.
