Experience The Slate Phuket: An In-Depth Review by Asia Collective

Rich in history and artistically vibrant, The Slate will intrigue your imagination with every turn throughout the expansive 177 room resort.

THE LOCATION

Upon disembarking from the aircraft, you convey your destination to the taxi driver by simply stating THE SLATE (previously known as Indigo Pearl), a historic landmark in Phuket.

For first-time visitors to Phuket, THE SLATE is conveniently situated a mere 10-minute drive from Phuket Airport, located on the beautiful, unspoiled white sands of Nai Yang Beach. The contrast between the bustling surroundings and the serene atmosphere of the luxurious resort is truly remarkable as you step onto the property.

The area features seafood restaurants, coffee shops, along with seasonal market stalls and massage parlors along the beach in front of the resort; however, the primary reason to venture off the resort grounds is for a refreshing swim in the ocean!

THE SERVICE

The staff members were both friendly and attentive, ensuring a seamless check-in process. Upon arrival, guests were presented with welcome beverages and a charming flower tied around their wrists with black ribbon. Our luggage was promptly transported to our room, and we were greeted with a complimentary jar of delightful cookies adorned with colorful sprinkles.

THE AMENITIES

Rich in history and artistically vibrant, THE SLATE captivates the imagination at every turn within its expansive 177-room resort, which features eight restaurants and bars, three outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a private beach club, an art lounge, a children’s club, and the award-winning COQOON SPA.

THE AESTHETIC

The design masterpiece by Bill Bensley is breathtaking from the moment you enter the hotel’s striking lobby. The island’s tin mining history is brilliantly integrated into the resort’s architecture, blending artistic elements with a modern twist. This harmonious contrast of old and new creates a unique charm.

As a member of Design Hotels, meticulous attention has been given to every detail in the accommodations, featuring artistic taps, stylish hand basins, vintage washer holders, distinctive tissue boxes, and elegant towel bags, along with historic 1920s ceiling fans above your cabana as you enjoy the sunlight by your private pool.

The bathrooms exhibit a raw concrete aesthetic, serving as the ideal backdrop for vibrant color accents, with each room or suite conveying a distinct narrative through unique black and white wallpaper themes, pink interiors, or pops of orange. Personally, my favorite feature was the creatively designed “tin-inspired” outdoor bathtub!

The three main swimming pools each provide a distinct atmosphere. There is the relaxing, adult-only infinity pool showcasing views of the manicured grounds, an additional adult pool conducive to social interaction featuring a swim-up bar, and a large family lagoon pool complete with various waterfalls and child-friendly features.

THE SLATE FOOD

The exquisite BLACK GINGER restaurant is undeniably the highlight of THE SLATE, featuring a spectacular entrance where guests traverse water on a candlelit raft over a magical lagoon to experience an “Exotic Taste of Thailand.” Once seated, the delightful fusion of Thai flavors transcends mere dining into an extraordinary gastronomic adventure. Without a doubt, it presents the finest Thai cuisine I have ever experienced, making it an unforgettable occasion.

The breakfast buffet is the most extensive I have ever encountered, offering an impressive variety of healthy selections. I found myself overwhelmed with options, and my only regret was needing to hastily consume my breakfast to catch my flight.

THE SLATE FOR CHILDREN

THE SLATE provides an array of family-friendly amenities, featuring its TIN BOX KIDS CLUB alongside other convenient offerings such as reliable and cost-effective babysitting services, highchairs, a children’s menu, and baby cots. This resort constitutes the perfect non-commercial retreat for parents wishing to unwind while their children are entertained by the caring staff.
