Switzerland, renowned for its iconic landscape depicted by the beloved character Heidi, intricate cuckoo clocks, and breathtaking Alpine vistas, is frequently hailed as one of the most picturesque locations in the world. Its unparalleled beauty may lead one to feel as though they have entered a scene from a postcard, abundant with stunning azure lakes, romantic snow-capped peaks, and lush green forests.

Traveling by train from the UK to France and Switzerland is more straightforward than many anticipate. Furthermore, it is an exceptional mode of travel, particularly if your objective is to have the flexibility to explore various locations during your journey while relishing the scenic views from the train windows.

Switzerland may appear small on a map, yet its magnificent landscape, dominated by the Alps, offers an abundance of breathtaking scenery and driving experiences. Every road trip in this charming European nation unravels picturesque views, idyllic lakes, and grand castles that make driving a thrilling adventure.

Nowhere is perfect, but let’s face it, Switzerland gets pretty darned close. The Alps ripple across 60% of the country, and the landscapes and towns look like they have been dreamed up by a particularly imaginative child. We’re talking glacier-capped peaks, crash-bang waterfalls, turreted castles of the fairy-tale kind, and lakes in the most surreal shade of turquoise blue. Red trains curl up mountains to improbable heights, and clanging cowbells ring out across hilly meadows that you can skip down with Heidi-like glee.

Little did I know when I moved to Switzerland a decade ago that I’d still be here now. However, with its stunning landscapes, outstanding weather, and exceptional public transport, this is a destination where it’s easy to settle in—despite the higher cost of living.

No country has it all, but the Swiss are justified in feeling pretty smug about their lot.

Switzerland is home to a plethora of remarkable destinations. The name alone evokes visions of exquisite chocolates, luxurious watches, unwavering neutrality, and finances with extraordinary sums. 💰

With over 65,000km of marked trails crossing hulking peaks, flower-filled meadows, and glittering glacial lakes, the Swiss Alps are just as intoxicating during the May to mid-October hiking season as they are when winter snow cloaks everything in white.

Perched in the middle of Continental Europe, Switzerland is a truly diverse country that offers so much more than just its iconic snow-capped mountains (which are spectacular, by the way).
