The following morning in Iceland, I awoke early with excitement to visit Geysir hot spring, Strokkur, and Gullfoss waterfall within the Golden Circle of Iceland; however, I unexpectedly felt a touch of frustration.
Back in the day, when Iceland’s founding fathers decided to make Reykjavik the nation’s capital, they were indeed doing future visitors a tremendous favor. The southwestern corner serves as an excellent base for exploring many of the country’s most iconic sights, from glacial caves to steaming lagoons.
Whether you have one day to explore the Icelandic countryside or a week, the Golden Circle is a classic route that’s essential for every visitor to Iceland. This region features some of the most popular attractions in Iceland, with sites accessible year-round. However, the most favorable time to visit is during the summer months, when temperatures are warmer and road conditions are more manageable.
