Summary
One pressing inquiry exists! Why was I unaware of the breathtaking allure of San Sebastian?
My enthusiasm for stunning cities aligns with that of fellow travelers, yet, for various reasons, I had failed to visit San Sebastian until our recent trip to The Basque Country. Rather than attempting to encapsulate the experience in words, allow me to present it visually.
Upon my arrival, the initial impression that transpired was one of familiarity akin to Paris (a feeling I derived from prior experiences in Paris before my journey to San Sebastian).
This sentiment was continually reinforced as we traversed the city’s streets…
However, unlike Paris, the atmosphere in San Sebastian conveyed a more relaxed ambiance. Families enjoyed cycling together, individuals strolled leisurely without urgency. The warmth and approachability of the city were palpable…
On our exploration, we stumbled upon the beach… A delightful surprise awaited us. Typically, urban locales do not boast exceptional beaches. While cities such as London, New York, Paris, and Singapore showcase a myriad of attractions, their appeal seldom includes beaches. Yet, San Sebastian has managed to provide not merely a beach but rather one that invites international travelers.
Upon our arrival, we encountered slightly overcast weather; yet, this is characteristic of the Basque Country, as its cloudiness dissipates almost instantaneously.
Subsequently, we proceeded to our accommodation for the evening – Hotel Londres! Do recall the sign positioned atop the building… We’ll return to that later! 😉
The check-in process was swift and filled with excitement!
As we entered our rooms, we were greeted by astonishing views. Just imagine stepping into a space where such beauty awaits you. My luggage found itself disregarded amidst my enthusiasm to capture the scene with my camera…
See, the overcast weather has vanished!
Upon arising bright and early the next day, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast (remarkably memorable though I can’t recall the visuals due to my insatiable appetite). Following breakfast, we embarked on a tour of the hotel, showcasing its splendid rooms…
The first room we explored was the Mata Hari suite, named after the enigmatic dancer and spy from World War I. This charming suite captures the essence of its famous namesake.
The aesthetic is one that invites admiration…
To summarize, we meandered back through the city, with further detail about our explorations forthcoming…
As we finally returned to Hotel Londres for a brief respite and a session of freshening up before heading out for dinner. Deep down, I believe we all returned to the hotel primarily to witness the sunset!
