Temple Square and downtown Salt Lake City are adorned with over a million blinking lights, illuminating various locations from the Gateway complex to Temple Square, Main Street to the Gallivan Center.
The holiday lights at Temple Square light up starting around November 20 and remain visible until New Year’s Day, offering morning views from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and evenings from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Special timings for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concerts feature extended lighting until 11 p.m., while on New Year’s Eve, lights shine until past midnight.
Throughout this festive season, local choirs perform at various venues, with popular events such as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert drawing both locals and tourists alike.
To avoid overwhelming crowds, consider visiting on a weeknight when no Utah Jazz games are scheduled. Moreover, downtown dining establishments can become busy, thus, making advance reservations is advisable.
The Jingle Bus
This festive season, visitors can hop on the Jingle Bus, a complimentary holiday-themed transportation option, which operates between City Creek Center, the Gateway, Temple Square, Capitol Theatre, and Gallivan Plaza, ensuring you catch all the beautiful light displays and decorations.
The Jingle Bus operates daily from late November through December, running from 5 to 10 p.m., excluding Christmas Day.
Luminaria at Thanksgiving Point

Experience a mile-long stroll through Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point, located in Lehi, Utah. This enchanting walk features 8,000 luminarias shaped like poinsettias and flying reindeer along the hills.
At the hill’s pinnacle, a majestic 120-foot Christmas tree is illuminated with festive lights. Luminaria runs from late November to early January, open Monday through Saturday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The last admission is at 9 p.m., and the venue operates on a limited schedule during major holidays.
Zoolights at Hogle Zoo

Zoolights is Hogle Zoo’s most anticipated event, running from the end of November to the end of December, excluding Christmas Day.
Since its inception in 2006, ZooLights showcases over a million twinkling lights and animated displays, turning the focus to the illuminated experience rather than the animals. However, some wildlife may still be visible during this event, especially those who enjoy the night atmosphere.
Dress warmly, as parking may require a bit of a walk. The hours are 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, extending to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with reduced hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Candlelight Christmas at Heritage Village
