Established as a coffee roasting business in 2002, Michael Thomas has evolved into a charming coffee shop featuring its own roastery. Over the years, this coffee shop has developed a loyal customer base at its compact location on South Carlisle within the compound known as The Source.

Fortunately for coffee enthusiasts, Michael Thomas has expanded, making it possible for fans to savor their beloved brews at a second location. The new shop opened in Nob Hill during the summer of 2014, expanding its footprint close to the University of New Mexico. This new spot provides the same freshly roasted coffee and delightful coffee drinks that customers love from the original shop. In addition, patrons can indulge in a selection of quick bites, including pastries and pre-made burritos, while the Bryn Mawr location sources sandwiches from the Hartford Square restaurant in East Downtown.

Breakfast options feature pre-made breakfast burritos (available while supplies last), granola bars, and baked items like cinnamon rolls. The deli case tempts with quiches, donuts, scones, cupcakes, and other delectable treats.

Conveniently located on Silver Avenue in Nob Hill, the new shop is nestled within an eclectic mix of storefronts that bridge the vibrant character of the neighborhood while still standing out with their colorful, distinctive facades. Additionally, this area complements the bustling corridor along Central Avenue where shopping and dining reign supreme; visiting the shops along Silver feels like a unique experience due to their tucked-away location. The zone is in close proximity to local favorites such as La Montanita Coop, Il Vicino, and Kelly’s Brewpub, yet remains a more tranquil spot.

Along the Silver strip, just off the corner of Silver and Bryn Mawr, you will find the captivating second Michael Thomas location. This coffee haven exemplifies the fusion of old and new, mirroring the characteristics of the area. Prior to opening, the owners undertook significant renovations, including the installation of a large, movable glass garage door that can be opened to the outside on warmer days. Although the shop’s entrance is on Bryn Mawr, patrons can also access it through a side door off Silver, leading through an inviting patio courtyard.

The Bryn Mawr cafe is long and narrow, but the large glass garage door and open design contribute to an inviting atmosphere. At the opposite end of the building, an outside patio seating area with tables enhances the coffee experience. Indoors, natural light pours in through the glass door, reflecting off the wooden floors and creating a warm, welcoming environment reminiscent of a cozy home.

The original Carlisle cafe, small yet cozy, complements the new location. Both cafes provide free WiFi, appealing to those who wish to work or study in a comfortable setting. Outside seating and window bars at each location are perfect for observing the passing crowd. Of course, both locations proudly serve exceptional coffee and tea, with a diverse range of beverages from classic cups to fine espresso.

Continuing its legacy, Michael Thomas maintains its coffee roasting operation and offers freshly roasted beans for purchase by the pound. Among the best-selling coffees are Duke’s Runner’s Blend, Banda Bear Blend, and the crowd favorite, Hornet Roast.
