Explore Family-Owned Wineries, Restaurants, and Hotels in California’s Russian River Valley: Your Trip Planning Guide

Discovering the Russian River Valley

In a serene corner of Sonoma County, the Russian River valley retains the nostalgic charm of California’s past. Nestled in Freestone, Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary beckons with a unique offering: the Cedar-Enzyme Bath.

Experience Cedar-Enzyme Baths

A cedar-enzyme bath involves submersion in a redwood tub filled with rice bran and warm cedar and fir shavings. This treatment promotes benefits for metabolism, digestion, the cardiovascular system, and sleep. Michael Stusser, the spa’s owner, discovered this healing method in Japan, leading to an extraordinary experience for visitors seeking therapeutic heat and relaxation.

During my visit, the calming effects of the cedar-enzyme bath improved my sleep and tranquility, leading to a day filled with rejuvenating experiences.

Journey into Winemaking

Motivated by a newfound passion for winemaking, I contacted Caleb Leisure, a winemaker in Cloverdale, in March 2021. The hot days and cool nights of Sonoma provide the perfect climate for developing refined wines. Leisure is known for crafting “zero-zero” wines, which involve no chemical additives, resulting in elegant, expressive flavors.

During my apprenticeship, I experienced daily physical labor in the vineyards, embracing the tranquil pace of life in West County.
