Summary of 24 Hours in Bordeaux
While it is true that our visit to Bordeaux extended beyond the span of 24 hours, this account focuses on our last 24 hours in the city prior to departing for the airport, which keeps the title relevant. 😁😄
Following a delightful lunch at a lovely restaurant, we opted to spend the remainder of the evening wandering through the picturesque streets of Bordeaux.
The initially carefree approach guided our exploration of this beautiful city, which is arguably the best way to truly connect with the heart of Bordeaux’s atmosphere. The laid-back vibe encourages a relaxed journey through the city’s charming thoroughfares.
After a brief interlude for some beers, we made our way to Mama Shelter to enjoy dinner and drinks before returning to the chateau to savor the bottles of bubbly we had previously acquired.
The subsequent morning (notably free of hangovers), we awoke early for breakfast, eager to maximize our remaining time in Bordeaux.
Given our haste the day prior, there were portions of the chateau that remained undiscovered. Below are a few photographs showcasing the more practical areas of the chateau such as the kitchen and dining space, as well as the exterior of the building.
Given the weekend, the market was abuzz with activity, prompting us to initiate our “grazing mode.” We sampled an abundance of local offerings.
Ultimately, I chose some delicious prawns, a decision I instantly questioned—not due to their flavor (they were quite exquisite!) but because they were rather messy to eat. 😆
Regardless, not a single morsel was wasted! *licks lips*
The indulgence extended into an indoor market/food festival, presumably an annual event in Bordeaux, as we relished every bite and sip available.
The gluttonous journey continued as we made our way to the CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art, where we had made lunch reservations earlier.
Subsequently, we left feeling that we had acquired a sufficient understanding of the city’s layout over the past few days. Next, we proceeded to the Notre Dame district—Les Chartrons—for coffee with a friend from the city along with, unsurprisingly, additional cake.
The Les Chartrons neighborhood proved to be an excellent locale for leisurely exploration. I highly recommend it for lunch, coffee, dinner, or any combination thereof. 😀
Be sure to visit the magnificent Église St Louis des Chartrons while there. It is truly awe-inspiring!
Eventually, we bid farewell to Bordeaux, a destination I had long wished to explore, which truly lived up to my expectations—even in the chill of autumn. I am already planning my return for the summer to indulge in the renowned French wines, though the charm of Bordeaux remains beautiful in any season.
