Sustainable Cruises: MSC Euribia’s Milestone
In the global quest for a sustainable future, the cruise industry is putting in the work. MSC Cruises recently completed the world’s first net-zero greenhouse gas emissions voyage on its brand-new MSC Euribia, marking a significant step towards the company’s aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Voyage Details: From France to Copenhagen
Recently, MSC Euribia traveled from Saint-Nazaire, France, to Copenhagen on a fuel-optimized mini-sailing. This ship is the second vessel in MSC’s fleet to operate on liquified natural gas, a fuel that significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to traditional maritime fuels. In fact, it produces up to 19 percent less greenhouse gas emissions per passenger per day than its counterparts powered by conventional fuels.
Ship Features and Comforts
The impressive 1,085-foot-long, 184,011-gross-ton cruise ship can accommodate around 6,300 passengers in 2,419 cabins. It features 10 restaurants, 21 bars and lounges, and five pools to keep guests entertained day and night. Notably, the Carousel Lounge offers spectacular sea views during the day and transforms into the venue for the Big Band at Sea performances at night.
Art and Design on Board
Onboard, guests can admire a remarkable array of artwork. An immersive animation by British artist Julian Opie can be found in l’Atelier du Voyageur bar, showcasing his distinctive walking figures. Additionally, a ship-long mural created by German graphic artist Alex Flämig features the hashtag #SaveTheSeas, selected as part of a global competition held by MSC in 2021.
Naming Ceremony in Copenhagen
Following its arrival in Copenhagen, MSC Euribia was officially named by its godmother, the Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren, who maintains a long-standing relationship with the cruise line. MSC Euribia will now embark on seven-day itineraries throughout Northern Europe, including beautiful excursions into Norway’s majestic fjords for the remainder of the summer.
Rates for a seven-night cruise on MSC Euribia start at $609 per person, accessible via msccruisesusa.com.
