Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, located in Mexico’s stunning Riviera Maya, has recently reopened after renovations, offering travelers a luxurious experience with a new restaurant by chef Curtis Stone and an upcoming Guerlain spa.
Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya, is once again welcoming travelers to its pristine waterfront location on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. This luxurious resort officially reopened on August 3rd, after a year-long renovation, receiving a chic makeover that emphasizes Maya culture and sustainability.
The property, nestled between a lush jungle and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, features a blend of contemporary design with local materials and traditional craftsmanship. Federico Echaiz, the property’s general manager, stated, “The respectful blending of contemporary craft and sustainable sourcing of local materials, artisanal patterns, colors, and craftsmanship offers a genuine piece of the Riviera Maya.”
The revamped resort boasts 72 accommodations—guest rooms, suites, and villas—each reflecting a dedication to craftsmanship. Interior design firm Tara Bernerd & Partners collaborated closely with local artisans to create custom decor, with 80 percent of the furnishings handcrafted exclusively for the resort. For instance, over 700,000 hand-painted tiles by renowned ceramicist José Noé Suro Salceda now adorn the guest rooms.
The lobby greets guests with striking Mayan pottery, while suites feature large rattan wall lights inspired by the Mayan calendar, creating an inviting atmosphere.
In addition to the beautiful interiors, Maroma offers sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea. Ten new one- and two-bedroom suites provide direct beach access, with some including private pools and gardens. The resort also features bespoke bathroom toiletries from Xinú Perfumes, which have created a custom scent blending notes of incense, lemon, and clay.
A new restaurant by award-winning chef Curtis Stone of L.A.’s Gwen is one of the exciting additions to Maroma’s food and beverage offerings. Named Woodend by Curtis Stone, this restaurant will delight guests with seasonal dishes that highlight the distinct flavors of the Yucatán Peninsula, showcasing plenty of seafood and plant-based options cooked over an open flame. Additionally, the restaurant Casa Mayor, led by chef Daniel Camacho, serves classic Mexican cuisine with a modern twist.
Guests can also enjoy herbal drinks at Bambuco Bar, combining on-site grown herbs with premium Mexican mezcal, while Freddy’s Bar offers an entertaining experience with seafront views, music, and a raw bar.
Beginning in November, guests will have the opportunity to indulge in spa and beauty treatments at the new Maroma Spa by Guerlain. This luxurious spa will offer holistic experiences, including a honey-based healing treatment, constellation massage, temazcal ceremony, and sound therapy.
As part of its commitment to sustainability and education, Maroma will also unveil a Meliponario, a secluded bee sanctuary that supports local biodiversity, in collaboration with Fundación Selva Maya.
Nightly rates at Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya, start at $1,095, making it an appealing destination for travelers seeking an unforgettable luxury experience in one of the most beautiful regions of Mexico.
