Getting to the Magic Kingdom

With attractions designed to appeal to kids of all ages, the Magic Kingdom is a highlight of any Walt Disney World vacation in Orlando, Florida. Whether you opt to arrive by car, monorail, bus, or boat, getting there efficiently enhances your overall experience. Moreover, your arrival time can significantly influence the quality of your visit; longer travel times may lead to long lines at popular attractions.

Consequently, staying at a nearby resort can be beneficial. This allows you to access the Magic Kingdom via the monorail or boat, ensuring that you arrive just as the gates open. Guests at the Grand Floridian Resort, Bay Lake Tower, Polynesian Village, or the Contemporary can conveniently take the monorail. At the same time, guests at the Wilderness Lodge & Boulder Ridge Villas and Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground can utilize a boat or bus. However, those at other Walt Disney World resorts typically rely on bus transportation to the park.

Regardless of your chosen transportation method, all guests must undergo airport-style security screening, either before leaving their resort or upon arrival at the Magic Kingdom Transportation and Ticketing Center (TTC).

Travel by Car to the Magic Kingdom

You can travel to the Magic Kingdom by car, regardless of whether you are staying in a Disney resort. However, resort guests benefit from free parking at any of the theme parks. Many devoted Disney fans choose to drive when other transportation options are unavailable, as it allows for the convenience of a familiar vehicle, accommodating any necessary car seats.

Nevertheless, there are a few downsides to driving. For instance, you won’t be able to park close to the theme park entrance. Instead, you’ll need to leave your car in a parking lot and take a tram to the TTC, followed by a ferryboat or monorail to reach the gates of the Magic Kingdom. If you arrive early enough, walking to the TTC may be a quicker option than taking the tram.

Public Transportation to the Magic Kingdom

Fortunately, there are three main public transportation options available for those visiting the Magic Kingdom: monorail, boat, or bus. Each offers its unique advantages and might fit different needs based on your circumstances.

Travel by Monorail: One of the key benefits of choosing a Deluxe Disney resort for your stay is the monorail service. If you are located at the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Bay Lake Tower, or the Polynesian, the monorail is likely the fastest and most enjoyable way to reach the Magic Kingdom. However, guests staying at the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower can walk to the park even faster than taking the train. If you are traveling with young children, the monorail is often a favorite choice.

Travel by Boat: Guests at Magic Kingdom Deluxe resorts or Fort Wilderness can also opt for boat transportation. This method is particularly pleasant when the weather is favorable. However, keep in mind that if you arrive as a boat departs, you may have to wait up to half an hour for the next one to arrive. If timed properly, a boat will drop you off right at the park entrance, eliminating the need to navigate the ferry or monorail.

Travel by Bus: If you stay at a Disney World resort, complimentary bus service is available to the Magic Kingdom. This option is convenient since the bus stops directly at the park, negating worries about parking. Nonetheless, travel times can vary widely based on your resort’s location. For instance, larger resorts with multiple bus stops may lead to longer travel times, while others, such as the Port Orleans and the deluxe Animal Kingdom Lodge, often have centrally located bus stops, resulting in more efficient transport to the theme park.
