Summary
Recently, I have encountered few destinations that manage to astonish me.
This is not to suggest that such destinations lack beauty or allure; rather, it stems largely from the extensive online research available that includes numerous photographs and videos. Consequently, I typically arrive well-informed about what to anticipate.
Having recently returned from a trip to Portugal, which I have yet to fully recount, I somewhat assumed that our forthcoming journey to Madeira would mirror the picturesque coastal scenes we encountered on our way to Sagres.
I also anticipated ample time to relax on the beach, indulgence in my fondness for Portuguese peri-peri chicken, abundant sunshine, and encountering several British tourists throughout the island.
Unexpectedly, I was in for a remarkable revelation.
The striking landscapes of Madeira are so captivating that one might feel compelled to forgo beach relaxation in favor of exploration.
Holidaymakers often venture into various parts of the island in pursuit of its breathtaking vistas, which stands in stark contrast to the typical British vacation experience.
Temperatures can be quite high along the coastline, while ascending into the mountainous areas can feel remarkably cold. It’s akin to experiencing four distinct seasons throughout the day, and you are given the choice of which to enjoy!
This is a location where the mountains literally ascend from the ocean and reach the clouds.
The peri-peri chicken was also remarkably delightful, continuing to excite my palate with each encounter.
This dramatic landscape also provides an excellent environment for whale watching and dolphin spotting, as the waters surrounding the island are favored habitats for both resident and migratory species.
There is an abundance of sights to discover on this remarkable island, which continues to astonish me! Detailed blog entries will follow shortly (I am still in the process of organizing all my photographs), but for now, here are several images capturing the beauty of Madeira!
