Summary
VILLA TJITRAP, SEMINYAK
Have you ever heard someone propose, “let’s plan a holiday to the Dutch East Indies”? Historically, until the 1950s, Indonesia was a Dutch colony, and it is essential to acknowledge that numerous remnants of Dutch influence are still present throughout the picturesque island of Bali. Many terms in the Indonesian language reflect Dutch origins, and a significant number of properties and architectural styles owe their designs to Dutch settlers. Villa Tjitrap continues to be owned by a Dutch family with longstanding ties to Indonesia. Upon entering the villa through its large gates, one feels as if they are journeying through time back to the colonial past, characterized by the iconic black and white houses renowned across Asia. With its high-arched roofs and regal foundations, the villa is embraced by lower and upper balconies that enhance the historic charm for all guests to appreciate.
VILLA TJITRAP – THE AESTHETIC
Villa Tjitrap, similar to many luxury villas in Bali, elegantly surrounds a magnificent pool. This turquoise centerpiece serves as a neutral backdrop, allowing the villa’s features to stand out against the lush, green landscape, which also showcases the prominent dining area. This open-plan space exudes the traditions of a colonial homestead while seamlessly incorporating elements of Balinese design. Towering ceilings lead to a traditional thatched roof, with feature lighting cascading like tropical vines from above, resembling raindrops suspended in the air. The ambient lighting delicately illuminates a stunning teak wood dining table, inviting guests to enjoy a banquet-style experience.
The dining area, which competes with the pool for prominence in Villa Tjitrap’s six-bedroom offering, is accessible from nearly every room, fostering an open and breezy ambiance where one can seamlessly enter and exit. The main entrance features an inviting open design, complemented by a large Buddha head that serves as a calming water feature, leading visitors on a journey through historical images of the untouched paradise first encountered by the villa owner’s forebears, emphasizing their proud Dutch lineage.
