Glamping in the Hamptons: Experience Luxury at Terra Glamping

If you’re like me, the idea of camping is just a straight-up no. Sure, I love the outdoors and nature — I’m always down for a hike — but I don’t want to haul a tent and supplies to a campsite. Therefore, the next best thing is glamping.

If you’ve ever been on Instagram, you’re probably aware that glamping is cool. However, glamping in the Hamptons is straight-up fabulous — and a wonderful way to escape the “scene” of it all and truly absorb the area’s natural beauty.

At Terra Glamping, tucked away in East Hampton’s Cedar Point County Park, guests enjoy nature with a splash of luxury that doesn’t involve the traditional hassles of normal camping. Home to 30 luxury safari-style tents set right near the beach, Terra Glamping is a glamorous oasis hidden between the water and the woods.

While there are many ways to get to the Hamptons — with trains and planes being two popular options — Terra Glamping is best experienced by car. For my boyfriend and me, the best option was renting a car through Silvercar by Audi. This incredibly simple service allowed us to secure an Audi Q7 that was delivered straight to my apartment in Brooklyn. The car’s onboard navigation system was super handy, helping us bypass NYC traffic and reach our campsite smoothly.

While glamping is obviously luxurious, part of the real glamour of Terra Glamping is that the experience is designed to help you disconnect. Inside the tents, you’ll find a memory foam mattress, dresser, vanity, flashlights, and lanterns, but you won’t find Wi-Fi or electricity. “We have created an unplugged space to spend time with loved ones and connect with nature,” the website states. Cell phone chargers are provided to keep some charge in your phone for exploring.

For us, the highlight of the experience was joining the campfire each night and mingling with fellow guests while sipping rosé. The first night, a bachelorette party from NYC and New England roasted s’mores with us, discussing marriage and debating whether Sweetgreen qualifies as fast food. The next night, we met two couples who had just met, and we enjoyed their company along with the incredibly vivid stars overhead.

Though the campsite has a lovely grilling area for those who enjoy cooking, we opted to drive the Audi to explore various restaurants in Montauk. Sel Rose, a sought-after spot for oysters, has an outpost in Montauk and might be one of the most picturesque restaurants I’ve visited. Be sure to order the Burrata; you’ll thank me later. Another excellent dinner option is Muse at the End, featuring live music, amazing cocktails, and Mexican street corn poppers that will redefine your view of appetizers.

Another convenient aspect of having a car while glamping in the Hamptons is the opportunity to explore the area’s various beaches. Fortunately, Terra Glamping is located right on the beach, and you can even partake in SUP or kayaking with equipment provided free of charge. Additionally, make sure to visit South Edison Beach in Montauk or drive past the picturesque mansions on “Billionaire Lane.” Cruising with the windows down made me wish I’d opted for Silvercar’s convertible option.

After enjoying donuts and coffee in the meal tent on Sunday morning, it was time to load up and prepare for the roughly 100-mile drive back to Brooklyn. Our conversation during the drive highlighted the irony that one of the most comfortable mattresses we’d ever experienced was in a tent in the woods, but hey, that’s the essence of glamping.

Following a stop at Target to stock up on essentials that New Yorkers always fill their cars with — especially an SUV — Peter from Silvercar met us at the apartment to return our trusty vehicle.

And just like that, we were city dwellers once again.
