While there is so much more to appreciate about Las Vegas beyond its glitzy, mega-casino-lined Strip, let’s be real here: the Strip is Las Vegas’ main attraction and a total must for newbies and veterans alike. It is constantly evolving—be it imploding classic casinos to make room for new developments or new restaurants and shops celebrating grand openings. Consequently, navigating the Strip becomes an exciting adventure with each visit.
Often jammed with traffic and under construction 24/7, you certainly don’t want to drive it unless you’re passing through for a scenic view or want to crawl at 5 mph to your dinner reservation. Instead, the Strip was made for strolling, with an extensive roadside network of super-wide sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian bridges, and outdoor escalators.
The beauty of a Strip stroll lies in the freedom to pause as desired—whether it’s hitting a blackjack table inside a casino or snagging a yard-long frozen cocktail from one of the convenient bars. However, be mindful that Las Vegas is located in a desert; therefore, bringing water and sunscreen is essential to avoid dehydration and sunburn during the day.
Where to Start: Mandalay Bay
The core of the Strip begins at the golden-windowed Mandalay Bay on the southern end and stretches north to towering Stratosphere, covering approximately 4.3 miles one way. If you wish to shorten your walk, it’s only 2.9 miles to the Wynn from Mandalay Bay—an easy stroll without any stops taking about an hour. Starting your journey at Mandalay, you can visit the acclaimed Shark Reef Aquarium, housing over 2,000 marine creatures in its clear glass tunnel.
The walk: An indoor path connects Mandalay Bay with the neighboring Luxor and medieval-themed Excalibur. Once you’ve reached Excalibur, cross the pedestrian bridge over Tropicana Ave to arrive at New York-New York.
Ride the Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York
