JetBlue Expands Its Route to London
JetBlue has officially jumped the pond, expanding into Europe with the launch of its new New York City to London route this week, and they’re doing so with a brand-new fleet. We got a first-hand look at what travelers can expect the next time they head to London with JetBlue.
Premium Offerings on Inaugural Flight
In celebration of the inaugural flight, which took to the skies on Aug. 11, the company debuted a new range of planes that feature premium offerings. Travelers who are accustomed to flying with JetBlue will be pleasantly surprised by their Mint Studios and Suites, which provide a considerable amount of space and impressive dining options (something we all know is hard to come by on an airplane).
The airline currently services over 100 destinations across the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean, but had yet to service Europe—until now. Earlier this year, the airline overhauled their first-class offering with the introduction of the new Mint, which includes private “cabins” with ample space.
Continuing Expansion into Europe
The expanded route signifies more than just a single flight; JetBlue has ordered 26 aircraft for their continued expansion plan into Europe, which will roll out over the next few years. The first delivered aircraft was the Airbus A321 Long Range (LR), facilitating travel from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to London Heathrow.
A Luxurious Travel Experience
The Airbus A321 LR aircraft was specifically designed to enhance customer experience during long routes, featuring all the luxuries of the company’s Mint line of premium service. The two Mint Studios on board provide lie-flat beds by Tuft & Needle, a set of pajamas (for those taking the red eye), multiple storage options, a 17-inch TV (the largest on any U.S. carrier), and a retractable door for added privacy. With 22 Mint Suites available, travelers can enjoy similar amenities, albeit with slightly less space and without pajamas. Additionally, even the 114 economy seats on board offer up to five inches more legroom compared to most transcontinental aircraft.
Entertainment and Dining Options
In terms of entertainment, guests can select from an assortment of shows and movies from Showtime and HBO, a curated range of London-centric films, and various games. Furthermore, the airline has partnered with the New York City-based restaurant Pasquale Jones to create a special menu for those traveling in Mint, while those in economy can enjoy selections curated by the New York City favorite, Dig Inn.
The Future of JetBlue’s International Service
This significant expansion marks a major step for JetBlue, but they are not resting on their laurels. A new NYC to London Gatwick route is slated to begin on Sept. 29, with additional routes from Boston to London scheduled for summer 2022.
