Essential Guide to Rome Ciampino Airport

Exploring Ciampino Airport: A Convenient Gateway to Rome

Ciampino Airport serves as Rome’s second airport, gaining popularity due to the over 100 airlines operating there, including numerous budget airlines such as Ryanair and EasyJet. Originally, it was the sole airport until the Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport was built in Fiumicino.

Ciampino Airport Location

Situated approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of central Rome, Ciampino is easily accessible. For those driving, state road SS7, known as Via Appia Nuova, leads to the Rome ring road or directly into the city. However, keep in mind that driving into Rome’s historic center requires a permit.

The COTRAL service provides affordable bus options that connect the airport to the Anagnina Metro station (line A), taking around 20 minutes, and to the Ciampino train station, which is only about 5 minutes away. Tickets are also available directly at the Terravision airport desk and Rome bus stop.

The bus stop and ticket vending machines are conveniently located in the international departure area of the airport, operating from 6:10 AM to 11:00 PM.

If traveling after hours, a taxi ride may be the only alternative. Taxis are readily available outside the departure terminal. Standard taxi fares to central Rome are regulated and should be clearly visible inside the taxi, although fares may increase at night.
