Exploring the Tiny Home Movement with GoTravelDaily
Ikea has created a tiny home that emphasizes living large without sacrificing style or amenities. This innovative design is centered on sustainability, making it ideal for modern travelers.
The tiny house movement, characterized by dwellings smaller than 500 square feet, has gained significant traction over the past decade. Recently, the trend has surged as individuals seek safe, compact havens during the ongoing pandemic. Recognizing this shift, GoTravelDaily has collaborated on the Ikea Tiny Home Project, aiming to create stylish and functional tiny homes.
In partnership with Vox Creative and the American RV and tiny home builder Escape, GoTravelDaily designed this space-saving house with eco-friendly features. Escape created the trailer, a customized version of its Vista Boho XL model, equipped with solar panels, composting toilets, and an on-demand heated water supply, highlighting the eco-conscious approach.
“It was a natural pairing,” explains Escape founder Dan Dobrowolski, who completed this tiny home build in less than 60 days. “We incorporate many Ikea products into our designs around the country as they align with our commitment to using renewable, reusable, and recycled materials in our structures.”
Abbey Stark, the senior interior design leader at Ikea, designed the space to serve as an Ikea showcase home, utilizing sustainable and multifunctional products that enhance energy efficiency.
“In designing this space, I started by identifying all necessary needs for the home,” Stark elaborated. “Factors like the wheel well and the home’s mechanics guided my approach to sourcing renewable and recycled materials, ensuring functionality without compromising aesthetics.”
The interiors feature neutral tones with white-washed sustainably grown pine panels. Kitchen cabinets are constructed from recycled materials, including bottle tops, and incorporated built-in storage solutions. A collapsible desk and table have been included, providing an ideal workspace for digital nomads.
If you’re considering entering the tiny home lifestyle, the Ikea BOHO XL model from Escape starts from $47,550.
