Arrival in Iceland and Initial Concerns
We arrived in Iceland to find that there was a storm warning (which we chose to ignore). However, the next day, we woke up to a couple of distressing emails; activities we had planned for the weekend were all cancelled due to the storm!
It turns out, the storm was anticipated to be one of the worst of the year and everyone we encountered advised us to hunker down and stay in Reykjavik. Needless to say, the situation was quite serious!
Adjusting Plans Due to the Storm
My approach in addressing such issues is to face them head-on. Consequently, rather than spending time worrying aimlessly, I prioritize identifying solutions. After a brief moment of panic; a necessary emotion during such times, we had to discard our original itinerary and reorganize our plans. With some quick adjustments, we managed to create a new, better itinerary for the weekend. This experience strongly reinforced my belief about the importance of flexibility and adaptability while traveling!
Revised Itinerary and New Adventures
Ultimately, our new plan was to face the storm and make it to the next scheduled activity! If you’re driving in Iceland, it’s vital to remember road.is – the official road monitoring website that will guide you on where to travel, especially when the weather turns inclement. This resource proved indispensable in our adjustments!
With our itinerary sorted, we realized we had limited time in Reykjavik than initially planned. Consequently, we took a quick tour around the town, prioritizing our visit to the church since we had been there previously.
After seeing the sights and rescheduling the tours, we hopped back into the car and faced some of the windiest and frightening winter conditions I have ever experienced! At one point, visibility was down to just a couple of meters… but all part of the adventurous spirit! 🙂
