1. Arrive Early to Account for Baggage

It is advisable for travelers to arrive at least two hours prior to a domestic flight and at least three hours for international flights. If you plan to drive and park, ensure you allocate ample time in case you need to check multiple lots for parking. Checking with your airline for potential flight delays and baggage weight limits before leaving home is also a smart move.

Failing to arrive early may complicate bag handling. If your arrival is less than 45 minutes before departure, you may not be allowed to check any luggage. This could become a dilemma if your bag is too large to carry-on or if you are traveling with multiple bags. Even if your bag is suitable for carry-on, be prepared to discard any liquid items at the security gate.

2. Avoid Parking Headaches

If the economy lots are full, overflow options will open; however, it is best not to head there unless guided by signage or airport staff. Sometimes, to encourage use of terminal garages, Sky Harbor provides coupons, offering discounts up to 40% off.

Alternatively, consider parking at an off-airport facility and prepare a backup plan (including directions and contact information) if your chosen lot is full. Ideally, arrange for someone to drop you off and pick you up from the airport. If that is not feasible, look into options like taxis, limousines, or shared-ride van services.

3. Get Up to Speed on TSA Rules
