The Art Collection
Hillwood Museum and Gardens, the former estate of art collector and philanthropist Marjorie Merriweather Post, boasts an impressive art collection. Ms. Post was a passionate art collector who assembled a superb array of Russian art, including paintings, furniture, Fabergé eggs, jewelry, glass, and textiles. The 36-room museum also features a remarkable collection of 18th Century French decorative arts such as furnishings, tapestries, and porcelain.
The expansive 25 acres of gardens include a circular rose garden, a traditional Japanese-style garden, a beautiful waterfall, a greenhouse for orchids, and a formal French parterre—a large crescent-shaped lunar lawn.
Throughout the year, Hillwood Museum and Gardens offers various programs like lectures, garden walks, workshops, and musical and theatrical performances. Visitors can explore the Museum Shop, which presents a delightful selection of gifts, and enjoy a variety of fresh salads and sandwiches at the Museum Café, which also serves Afternoon Tea.
