Exploring Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm Fjords to Dawes Glacier, Alaska

Discovering Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm Fjords, Alaska

Departing from Ketchikan, I was keenly anticipating our subsequent port stop during our Celebrity Cruise through Alaska. The next destination was Juneau, and we held high hopes that this would finally provide us with the opportunity to observe whales.

At that juncture, I was indifferent regarding the species of whale; simply witnessing one was significant for us. Our attempts at whale watching had been plentiful, yet yielded no sightings, thus the prospect of seeing any was genuinely thrilling.

Consequently, long before we set foot on the Celebrity Cruise to Alaska (this excitement had been brewing for quite a while), whale watching was our first reservation! However, more details on that later… 😁

Dining in Ketchikan, Alaska

For dinner, we chose to dine at the Grand Epernay restaurant, where the culinary experience was truly exceptional (the quality of the food here is impressive), beginning with gnocchi for myself and French onion soup for Lloyd, accompanied by cocktails to enhance the occasion!

The next morning, I awoke with purpose to observe the fjord’s view, fully intending to quickly return to sleep after a brief look (after all, we were scheduled to arrive in Juneau later that afternoon).

Upon drawing back the curtains to view the fjord, I was immediately captivated—its beauty was beyond words!

The water appeared like glass, surrounded by towering mountains, with small icebergs floating by, creating a breathtaking spectacle to awaken to.

In a rush to enjoy an even more stunning view from outside, I hastily dressed (I almost considered going out in my pajamas, but thought better of it at the last moment), urgently grabbed my camera, and woke Lloyd to head to the ship’s helipad, where we were treated to an extraordinary view of the fjord!

However, due to significant amounts of ice in Tracy Arm Fjord, our passage was impeded, and after some time, we diverted our route into the equally magnificent Endicott Arm fjord.

The scenery as we traversed the fjord became increasingly picturesque—it was tranquil and unlike anything else we had encountered during this voyage.

Eventually, after approaching the glacier as closely as feasible, the ship navigated back out of the fjord, heading toward Juneau!

It was everything we had hoped for and more! This experience served as the pinnacle of our entire cruise, and I am excited to share further details in the upcoming post!
