Article Summary
Easily one of the most recognizable structures in Italy and globally, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is an extraordinary sight! I experienced an overwhelming sense of awe upon seeing it in person; however, let’s backtrack to provide some context.
Visiting Pisa was initially a supplementary journey within a primary trip to Florence (details on that later!), and it undoubtedly proved to be a valuable experience. Pisa is conveniently located approximately one hour from Florence by train, making it a sensible day trip if time permits.
It’s essential to note, however, that Pisa has limited offerings beyond the tower. While it is a beautiful and quaint Tuscan city, one may find a prolonged stay—such as a week or two—somewhat monotonous; a weekend is generally sufficient to enjoy Pisa’s highlights.
Our adventure in Pisa commenced with a leisurely stroll through the picturesque city from the train station towards the leaning tower.
We wandered through the tranquil streets, searching for refreshments and sustenance…
We navigated the picturesque and calm city, on the lookout for nourishment and hydration.
Eventually, we arrived at the Leaning Tower! We were astonished by its grandeur! I had always anticipated a smaller structure.
Undoubtedly, the obligatory tourist photos commenced! (I am an enthusiast for such whimsical photos! So what if others might critique it – capturing moments like these is essential for a memorable photo album!).
Moreover, one might not expect to encounter other striking landmarks around the Leaning Tower, which are equally noteworthy!
After soaking in the sights and taking numerous photographs, we decided to settle down on the grass for a picnic!
It appeared others shared a similar idea!
Even the pigeons joined us for lunch…
Eventually, we decided to continue our explorations, albeit not before snapping a few more pictures and walking around one last time…
And here’s Yaya’s own obligatory Leaning Tower of Pisa photograph!
Yaya topped off his water bottle at a public drinking fountain (a brilliant approach to conserve funds and ensure adequate hydration across Italy! These are plentiful in numerous Italian cities, and the water is safe to consume).
As we departed the Leaning Tower, we made our way back to the hotel.
Upon reaching the hotel, I unceremoniously deposited my belongings on the bed and floors, promptly heading toward the hotel pool, as the weather was exceptionally warm that day!
Aaaah… time for a refreshing dip in the pool!
However, shortly after emerging from the pool, Yaya succumbed to sleep…
Yaya insists he wasn’t asleep, though the impressions from the chair on his back as he rolled over suggest otherwise. 🙂
From our hotel, the silhouette of the Tower remained visible.
Gradually, the sun began to set…
We eventually ventured out for dinner but not without one last glance at the now illuminated Leaning Tower glimmering in the distance.
