Batu Baginda is a short but incredible hike in Belitung, Indonesia, leading you to the top of a massive boulder that overlooks the stunning jungle landscape. This destination remains relatively unknown to most tourists, making it one of our most cherished experiences on the island. Additionally, it’s part of the newly recognized UNESCO Geopark. Batu Baginda Hike

Prepare for a short yet steep hike to the summit of Batu Baginda rock, which takes approximately 15 minutes at a steady pace.

Be mindful to keep moving to minimize mosquito bites, especially since areas in Indonesia, including Belitung, are prone to dengue fever.

Persisting on the trail until you reach the top is advisable. It’s a brief trek, and maintaining your pace can help avoid any insect interruptions.

Atop the rock, a ladder and rope assist you in climbing. Although it appears daunting initially, the climb is manageable, even in sandals.

The ascent can be steep and potentially slippery following rain, so exercise caution and take your time. Ultimately, you will reach an incredible vantage point!

Batu Baginda Viewpoint

Upon reaching the summit of the boulder, you’ll find the surface flat, allowing for exploration and breathtaking 360-degree views.

It evokes memories of Elephant Rocks in Missouri, yet here, you have the unique experience of standing atop one of the largest formations.

The refreshing breeze is inviting, with vistas showcasing mountains to the north, the Java Sea to the south, as well as lush jungles and palm oil plantations below, not to mention another magnificent rock formation in the distance.

The term ‘Batu Baginda’ (alternatively spelled ‘Batu Baginde’) translates to “His Majesty, The Rock” in Bahasa/Indonesian, a fitting name for this majestic site.

This stunning locale invites admiration, and I could have easily spent the entire day immersed in the scenery. While Intan napped, I took the opportunity to fly the drone and capture stunning images, particularly illustrating my small frame on this monumental boulder.

If you own a drone, this is the perfect location to deploy it, as the scale of the boulders is truly awe-inspiring when viewed from above!

Enjoy these captivating drone shots.
