After a refreshing night’s sleep following yesterday’s exploration in Northumberland, we proceeded to enjoy a delightful breakfast at the Joiner’s Arms.
As the saying goes, ‘All happiness depends on a luxurious breakfast,’ and indeed, this meal epitomized that sentiment.
Having indulged in a variety of fresh fruit, pots of tea, and a full English breakfast (sans black pudding and mushrooms, which remain unappealing), we eagerly set out to discover more of Northumberland.
Our primary destination was Bamburgh Castle, as Northumberland is renowned for its plethora of castles, the highest in England.
We had contemplated visiting Alnwick Castle as well; however, it was not operational until our departure from Northumberland. Fortunately, Bamburgh Castle proved to be equally captivating and certainly did not feel like a compromise. Indeed, it was remarkable to behold.
As we approached, the formidable castle emerged in sight… it was undeniably grand!
With a rich history extending over 1,500 years, the castle is saturated with historical significance. Notably, it is believed that the site may have once served as the capital of the ancient kingdom of Bernicia.
Furthermore, there are claims that the castle is the legendary site of Sir Lancelot’s castle, Joyous Garde, which seems plausible.
Fortuitously greeted by another splendid sunny day, we ventured directly into the grounds of the castle. Upon entry, we made a beeline for the State Rooms.
Some of the rooms were grand, others more modest, yet they all exuded charm.

We were tremendously fortunate to experience yet another gorgeous, sunny day as we ventured through the castle’s pathways to explore its magnificent views from the ramparts.
