Travel Diary Summary
“During our stay at Semara Beach House we hardly left, and if you have the opportunity to experience the magic of this place, you will understand why!”
We arrived late at night on the Island of the Gods. The combination of the incense fragrance in the warm tropical air, the enchanting sounds of local music, and the welcoming smiles from the residents is unparalleled.
Our initial two nights were spent at the exquisite Peppers Seminyak. The courteous staff welcomed us and escorted us to our private two-bedroom villa, which featured a stunning private pool and all essential amenities. We immediately took a refreshing late-night dip while enjoying a cold Bintang beer, and room service soon spoiled us with a delectable meal. As the day concluded, we retired to bed with tired yet content smiles. It is indeed wonderful to be back in Bali!
Day 1
As is customary, we commenced the day with a swim in our private pool before strolling along the garden pathways to breakfast. Seated by the main pool, we indulged in yet another delightful meal. We rented a bicycle and ventured to Canggu, where Ryan surfed while I relaxed under the sun with a coconut beverage in hand. Later that evening, after an eventful day filled with sun and surf, we dined at The Laneway restaurant in Peppers Seminyak, enjoying cocktails along with exceptional entrees, main courses, and desserts. The experience was truly exquisite!
Day 2
This morning, we rose early to visit Keramas Beach for breakfast and surfing. Subsequently, we returned to our villa at Peppers for another swim before enjoying a couple’s massage at the Spa at Peppers. The experience was so relaxing that Ryan dozed off. Following our rejuvenating treatment, we relished our final lunch at the superb Laneway restaurant. We bade a fond farewell to the amiable staff at Peppers, who were remarkably accommodating. Our stay there was a delightful experience, and we are certain we will return!
Our next destination was Berawa Beach, Canggu, where we stayed at Semara Beach House. This establishment is nothing short of remarkable! It is luxuriously decorated while maintaining the laid-back atmosphere characteristic of Canggu, evoking a sense of traditional Bali, particularly throughout the gardens. Situated directly on the beach, the ocean is visible from every window, complemented by attentive staff and a talented in-house chef.
Adjacent to Semara Beach House is the newly established Finns Beach Club, which is simply breathtaking! We were fortunate to be invited to the pre-launch event on our first night, where we delighted in signature cocktails while taking in the stunning surroundings. Given Canggu’s popularity as a surfing destination, the installation of night surfing spotlights is an inspired addition that enhances the experience.
Day 3
We awakened to a picturesque view reminiscent of a postcard! The staff served us coffee in bed while we admired the surf. After his final sip, Ryan promptly headed out to the water, while I took the opportunity to relax, capturing photographs and enjoying the ambiance of my dream retreat. For breakfast, we chose The Spicy Coconut, a vegan restaurant located on Batu Belig, nestled between Canggu and Seminyak. The exquisite flavors, vibrant colors, and thoughtful presentation of the cuisine here are truly magical and highly Instagram-worthy!
In the afternoon, Ryan and I enjoyed sunset drinks within the sanctuary of what I affectionately referred to as “our palace”, before being informed by the staff that dinner was ready, offering an exceptional culinary experience! In such a romantic atmosphere, we chose to remain in for the evening.
Throughout our time at Semara Beach House, we found it challenging to venture outside. Experiencing its charms makes it clear why this location is ideal for weddings, accommodating loved ones and friends. The expansive pool, excellent surfing just steps away, entertainment options including a pool table, and outstanding dining, combined with proximity to Finns Beach Club, create an extraordinary ambiance for celebrations, family vacations, or surf trips.
Day 4
Once again, we started the day with bed coffee, while Ryan surfed, already out for some early waves. After he returned, we ventured downstairs for a delightful breakfast prepared by the staff. To allow our meals to settle, we lounged at Finns Beach Club before proceeding to our next destination.
Upon the driver’s arrival, we expressed our gratitude to the friendly staff and departed for Bingin, where we would spend the next two nights. On our first night, we stayed at Mu’s, conveniently located only a five-minute walk downhill to the beach. We immersed ourselves in the crystal-clear waters and exfoliated our feet in the powdery white sand. Celebrating our new location, we savored a couple of Bintangs while watching a picturesque sunset, playfully accompanied by monkeys leaping in the trees. That evening, we traveled to Jimbaran Bay for a delightful seafood dinner accompanied by live music.
Day 5
Another captivating tropical day unfolded as we ventured to Uluwatu for a few hours before checking in to the Sal Secret Spot at Bingin Beach. This intimate luxury boutique hotel is located a mere five-minute walk to the stunning clear blue waters and surf at Impossible & Bingin Beach. We relaxed by the saltwater pool while sipping coconuts, soaking up the ambiance. Later that afternoon, we hopped on a bike and headed to The Cashew Tree for healthy yet delightful cuisine, followed by an indulgent massage nearby.
Day 6
Arising early, we sought solitude and surf at Padang Padang before the crowds converged. Following this, we journeyed to the serene and cultural core of Bali: Ubud. Upon arriving at The Ubud Village Resort and Spa, we were enveloped in tranquility, wishing for more than a mere night to enjoy this enchanting place.
Entering our exquisite private villa, overlooking the rice fields, I was delighted to find an outdoor bathtub filled with rose petals; it was sheer tranquility. That evening, we ambled over to their five-star restaurant where we relished an exceptional three-course meal that was simply divine!
Day 7
A captivating sunrise illuminated the rice fields as we enjoyed breakfast and sipped our coffee. Subsequently, we embarked on an adventure to Tegenungan Waterfall in Ubud, a must-visit just a 20-minute ride away; its beauty and power are awe-inspiring! After returning to The Ubud Village, I indulged in a traditional Balinese massage using frangipani oil. Exuding relaxation, we bid farewell to the wonderful staff and eagerly await our next stay, which will certainly be extended.
Next, we traveled to our final destination, The Santai by Lifestyleretreats. We were greeted with warm smiles from the staff, who quickly made us feel at home with a delightful platter of food and fresh Balinese coffee. The beauty and spaciousness of our villa, located just ten minutes from the Seminyak center in the peaceful area of Umulas, left us completely enchanted.
That night, we dined at Biku in Seminyak, which is situated on Jalan Petitenget, one of my favorite restaurants. A refreshing night swim in our private pool followed, marking the end of a splendid day as we enjoyed a movie in bed post-dinner.
Day 8
Awakening early yet again in pursuit of waves, we ventured to Sanur, while I lounged on the day beds to soak up the sun while Ryan surfed nearby. Upon returning to The Santai, we enjoyed a delightful room service meal and spent the afternoon frolicking in the pool. That evening, we met up with friends, engaging in some lively bar hopping.
Day 9
This morning, we dove straight into our private pool while awaiting our complimentary three-course breakfast. I relished the mouthwatering fluffy banana pancakes and freshly squeezed orange juice before heading into Seminyak for some last-minute shopping. I also pampered myself at Gooseberry Intimates, purchasing lovely items that are a must-have!
After a surf session in Canggu, we enjoyed lunch at Milk & Madu, another favorite café! We indulged in a scrumptious final feast. Regrettably, it was time to pack our belongings, filled with reluctance as we truly did not want to leave Bali or The Santai. Following packing, we enjoyed a few final Bintangs by the pool at sunset.
