Summary of Our Journey to Ayutthaya
Upon our nighttime arrival in Bangkok, we initially overlooked mentioning our accommodation, which I will now highlight.
We had the privilege of staying at the LiT BANGKOK Hotel, which provided an excellent experience during our initial nights in the city.
Although I intended to capture images at the pool (which features multiple swimming pools), I have unfortunately misplaced those photos.
During our first full day, we opted for relaxation by luxuriating by the pool, indulging in cocktails and enjoying spa treatments. This laid-back day truly recharged our spirits for the adventures ahead, far superior to a packed schedule that would leave one too fatigued to appreciate the experience.
The following morning, we embarked on a journey northward, leaving Bangkok for Ayutthaya, a historical city that was once Thailand’s capital.
It is essential to recognize that the wealth of historical significance and remarkable architecture in Ayutthaya renders it a must-visit destination in Thailand.
Visit to Bang Pa-In Royal Palace
Our first destination was the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, also recognized as the summer palace – an impressive complex still utilized today as the summer retreat for the Thai royal family.
Outside of the defined ‘summer season’ (noting that Thailand essentially experiences just wet and dry seasons), the palace accommodates visitors eager to explore its grandeur.
Indeed, we found ourselves captivated by the palace’s beauty and ended up spending significantly longer on-site than we initially planned.
Upon concluding our visit, we felt the need for reprieve from the intensifying sun and retreated to our vehicle, where the driver had the air conditioning operating at full capacity as we proceeded to our next destination.
Exploring Ayutthaya’s Historic Sites
Adventuring onward, our next visit was to Wat Phanan Choeng, a temple nearly seven centuries old, boasting historical ties to Chinese refugees from the Song Dynasty. This temple is home to an impressive Buddha statue dating back to 1334 BCE.
Experiencing local insights, such as this, is why we valued the assistance of a guide for this trip. Without such a resource, we might have overlooked essential sites that provide a genuine understanding of Ayutthaya’s rich culture.
Consequently, these lesser-known gems are invaluable for attaining a comprehensive grasp of the area you visit.
After visiting the temple, we proceeded to explore more renowned sites in Ayutthaya. For a thorough account of all significant locations, please refer to the dedicated post, which contains extensive details and vibrant visuals that capture the essence of this remarkable city.
