Summary
To be clear, this hotel may well be the most exceptional hotel I have ever encountered. Picture being captivated by a hotel—this is precisely how I feel! The Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin is striking and genuinely unique for numerous reasons. It is, in fact, comparable to my admiration for the ice hotel in Sweden!
What is Propeller Island City Lodge?
This distinctive venue is fundamentally an artistic installation where one can, interestingly, also rest. Crafted by the esteemed artist Lars Storschen, Propeller Island features among the most exquisitely designed rooms globally. Storschen has committed himself to curating an immersive experience intended for all those who wish to enjoy a restful slumber. From brutalist aesthetics to abstract elements, as well as windowless arrangements—Propeller Island offers Berlin’s most extraordinary escapade.
Who should stay here?
This establishment is for you—that’s who! It is an experience that everyone ought to embrace at least once in their lifetime. Regardless of whether one adores or detests the experience, your visit will be undeniably unforgettable! Anyone with an appreciation for the arts or seeking something beyond the conventional will undoubtedly become enamored with this establishment.
Why was it created?
During his early struggles as an artist in the 1990s, Lars Storschen opted to rent out his spare room for additional income—akin to a version of an Airbnb. This initiative allowed him to sustain his living while crafting his art, consequently leading to one of his prized installations, Propeller Island. Over time, Storschen grew restless with the notion of merely renting out hotel space; instead, he aspired for every guest to depart with an unforgettable experience.
What’s so special?
Each room designed by Storschen is fundamentally a work of art. In contrast to conventional hotels, guests will encounter an assortment of eclectic furniture, unbarred walls, and abstract entrances that are frequently reconfigured by visitors. Storschen welcomes this evolution within his spaces and motivates each patron to fully discover the potential of their room.
What do you mean no TV?
Divergent from most hotel accommodations, Propeller Island does not furnish televisions, digital radios, or any other communication devices (unless, of course, you choose to use your mobile phone). Each room, however, is equipped with advanced audio systems transmitting unique soundscapes crafted by Storschen for each space, thereby amplifying the overall experience.
What are the rooms like?
Each room displays an entirely unique design, with guests given the opportunity to specify their preferred room type. While several images of the rooms are provided for reference, they range from golden-hued spaces adorned with abstract artwork, to prison-like enclosures, inverted setups, therapy rooms, forest-themed spaces, and even compact areas with ceiling heights limited to 1.4 meters. Each room is meticulously configured to provide an entirely new experience.
Who should I take with me?
I, for one, would not hesitate to revisit! My hand is raised enthusiastically! I will eagerly await your invitation 🙂
