Summary
We were eagerly anticipating our weekend excursion to New York City, a vibrant metropolis renowned for its dynamic atmosphere and diverse attractions. Notably, it is often referred to as the city that never sleeps, the Big Smoke, or the Big Apple.
Following our extensive rickshaw journey across Italy, covering nearly 1,000 kilometers, we had precisely seven hours to return to London, organize our belongings, and enjoy a comforting cup of tea prior to our next transatlantic adventure.
Shortly thereafter, we boarded the aircraft, and we were excitedly on our way to New York City! Admittedly, there is a certain thrill associated with the experience of sitting on the upper deck of a jumbo jet that I find particularly exhilarating.
While this may seem trivial, it genuinely brings me a great deal of joy!
Upon arrival, we opted to head directly to brunch at Bobby’s in Tribeca, where we planned our itinerary for the weekend. After consuming what felt like an entire plantation’s worth of coffee, we ventured out into the city for exploration!
Our exploration took us through the vibrant neighborhood of Soho, where we discovered numerous independent art galleries. One artist whose works greatly intrigued us was a South African creator known for crafting intricate artwork using minute crystals and pins to form larger images, including depictions of a duck, flamingo, and even a firearm.
Regrettably, despite my strong desire to purchase one of these pieces, my budget simply did not allow for such indulgence. 🙂
Following our art gallery explorations, we collectively decided to seek out unique vintage shops in the area. Georgia found a pair of exceptionally fashionable sunglasses, which I now somewhat regret not purchasing (don’t mention it to her, but I might just acquire a pair for myself tomorrow).
Much to our surprise, three hours swiftly elapsed during our adventures!
Yikes, it is remarkably easy to lose track of time while traversing the iconic neighborhoods of New York, particularly those filled with delightful surprises at every turn. A valuable lesson—I must improve my time management skills.
After our shopping spree, we opted for a brief 20-minute walk across the renowned Brooklyn Bridge.
This bridge stands as one of New York’s most recognizable landmarks, boasting nearly 150 years of history connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan. Furthermore, it offers a splendid vantage point from which to admire the Manhattan skyline.
During our stroll, iconic structures came into view including the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, and Brooklyn Heights, which hosts an array of intimate music venues featuring local artists performing on weekends.
On our return walk to Manhattan, I found myself unwittingly involved in an impressive street performance.
These performers demonstrated remarkable acrobatic skills, effortlessly leaping over four individuals in a single bound. Initially, I experienced a sense of apprehension, but participating was incredibly enjoyable!
Subsequently, we decided to take a leisurely walk down Fifth Avenue to savor some of New York’s renowned landmarks.
We sauntered past the Empire State Building, the New York Public Library, and headed towards the dazzling lights of Times Square!
We are eagerly looking forward to sharing additional highlights from our New York experiences in the upcoming weeks.
If you have any suggestions regarding experiences we should not miss, please do share! We would greatly appreciate recommendations on activities to consider during our next visit!
