Summary
We have just returned from Portugal, where we spent several days in Cascais and Sintra.
Generally, Cascais and Sintra are in close proximity to Lisbon and are often incorporated into trips to the capital. However, since we had previously visited Lisbon and had limited time for this trip, we decided to discover an area of Portugal previously unexplored. We were certainly pleased with our choice!
Lisbon is incredible (it’s a city I could easily call home); however, pairing a visit to Sintra and Cascais with a trip to Lisbon is highly advantageous. I will be producing in-depth posts on these locations soon; in the meantime, I wanted to share some photographs resembling postcards, along with seven essential insights for your visit.
1.) The train journey from Lisbon to Cascais requires around 30 minutes, operates approximately every 20 minutes, and costs merely €2.60!
2.) Beaches are plentiful throughout the area. As you venture further, the coastal scenery becomes even more impressive, yet you will encounter numerous beach options throughout the town.
3.) Seafood holds significant importance in this coastal town, where culinary expertise results in sumptuous seafood dishes.
4.) The intricately tiled streets warrant exploration—providing an excellent opportunity to ‘get lost’ amidst the picturesque alleys of the town.
5.) Notably, this locale serves as the true birthplace of James Bond, as Ian Fleming drew inspiration for the characters from various sites within Cascais.
6.) The dramatic cliffside vistas are a major highlight of this region.
7.) Cascais gained prominence as a residence for various royal families and aristocrats in Europe, owing to Portugal’s neutrality during World War II and the allure of its coastal charm.
We are eager to share more insights and images from both Cascais and Sintra! (You can find some images from Sintra on Instagram already!)
