After an amazing (and very relaxed) first day on our surprise trip to Verona (all arranged through what I now call our personal travel concierge – srprs.me), I woke up almost unbelievably well-rested and so eager to get out and explore Verona!
We gobbled down breakfast at record speed and headed off to explore one of Verona’s most famous sights – the Arena di Verona.
This nearly 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheater is as impressive as it sounds.
It’s pretty easy to get lost in its labyrinth-like walls! 😉
This arena is still celebrated, albeit not for gladiator matches but as a vibrant music venue.
Moreover, the Arena boasts one of the best views of the nearby Piazza Bra, making it a marvelous place for people-watching. 🙂
After departing the Arena, we sauntered down to the Piazza in pursuit of gelato and other delightful treats from Verona.
Throughout Piazza Bra, many sports cars were parked – exciting both locals and tourists alike. I still have no idea why the cars had gathered there, but apparently, this isn’t unusual in the Piazza – there’s always something happening here (as we discovered in the following days).
The Arena showcases a remarkable view of the Piazza Bra and is an excellent spot for people-watching.
Consequently, our journey led us to abundant culinary delights, with an adventure that swayed between pizzas, buttery pasta (yes, it was pasta swimming in melted butter – incredibly indulgent and delicious), and yet another pasta dish in a tomato sauce whose name I can’t quite recall.
Dessert for me was Panna Cotta (another good old fave of mine)…
…before wandering into Chiesa di Santa Maria Della Scala…
And then heading off again in search of more of Verona’s delights.
By this point, I was absolutely smitten with Verona and couldn’t fathom why I’d never thought to visit before our surprise trip! 🙂
