How to get there…
One can take a train from the heart of Athens to Kalabaka on a daily basis. The travel duration is approximately 5-6 hours, which may vary based on the time of departure. It’s a lengthy journey, so bring along some music and ensure you rest adequately before the trip! When traveling from Thessaloniki, anticipate a journey of around 4 hours.

Who should visit Metéora?
Let’s be candid… ANYONE should consider a visit to Metéora, regardless of religious beliefs! This location is breathtaking and exemplifies the remarkable human achievements of centuries past. If you are an enthusiast of geography, like me, you will likely admire the stunning vistas of the rock formations. The setting is also steeped in rich culture and history, which caters perfectly to those who are passionate about historical narratives! 😉
However, as certain areas within Metéora can be relatively elevated, those with acrophobia (fear of heights) may want to reassess their visit. Those rock formations are indeed steep!
How much does it cost?
The fees to enter the monasteries can be relatively affordable. In some instances, admission costs less than €5 / £4 / $4.80. Conversely, if you are interested in a guided tour (lasting approximately half a day), anticipate a payment around €25.
Dress code?
